March Regular Meeting Brief

All items discussed at the March agenda meeting were passed at the regular meeting Monday night. Two Part-Time Policemen Hired by Borough

During yesterdays council meeting, council voted to pass an exception: at the Regular Meeting of Council held 9/19/16, Council voted to discontinue the shooting range at Stiefel Park, effective 12/31/16, to be in compliance with the Master Park Plan. However, a motion would be in order to make a one-time exception to use the shooting range in Stiefel Park to qualify one of the newly hired part-time officers (Gary Greene, Jr.). PHOTO: Two Boxers Receive Commendation from Ellwood City Borough

Charlie Clouston, a three-time golden glove champion, and Rosie Morales attended yesterdays council meeting to receive their commendations. Both of the commendations were presented by Council President, Connie MacDonald, who stated the men were being recognized by the Borough for competing in a Pittsburgh boxing invitational in Cuba where they demonstrated outstanding physical skills, great sportsmanship as well as served as an excellent international ambassador for the United States and the Borough of Ellwood City.

Woman Facing Charges of Child Endangerment After Injuring Infant

A resident of Freed’s Trailer Park in New Galilee, 24 year-old Courtney Marie Jeffries, will be facing charges of simple assault and endangering the welfare of children, proceeding an incident that occurred last month involving her three month old daughter. According to the criminal complaint, the daughter of Jeffries was taken to the Ellwood City Hospital with an injury to the child’s right arm. The infant was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh UPMC and a medical personnel at the facility examined the child and diagnosed her with a fracture on her upper arm. In a highly anticipated showdown, Turncoats and BDI squared off Sunday night at the Family Center with Turncoats unbeaten record on the line.  It was more of the same from Turncoats with silky smooth shooting, ball movement and pancakes being served afterwards.  Helping lead the Turncoats to victory, CJ “Doesn’t Need Dave Chappelle for a Block Party’” Lewis had himself a game. Western Pennsylvanians will be experiencing a temperature increase following the coincidental correlation of the first day of spring and the predicted spring weather-appropriate forecast. Try-Outs for Ellwood City’s First Competitive Cheer Program

Nikki DeLuca, a local competitive gymnastic coach at Diamond Dance Academy, is excited to be bringing Ellwoodian youth their first opportunity to participate in a competitive all-star cheer program. DeLuca will be the head coach of the Ellwood City Explosion All Star Cheer. The Explosion squads will be tailored for any level youth between the ages 5-18, and the cheer group will be co-ed.
