Ellwood Area Golden Agers 55+ Event
Community members 55+ are invited to enjoy an afternoon of Bingo and cards held at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Center Starting on March 15th and tentatively throughout the following dates: March 15, 22, 29, April 5, 19, 26, and May 3, 10, 17, 24. Doors open at 12:30p.m. with Bingo and cards starting at 1p.m. The event is free but Bingo will cost $1-$2 per ticket, light snacks and drinks will be provided. Riverside to Present “The Drowsy Chaperone”
The Riverside High School Theater will present the hilarious comedy musical, The Drowsy Chaperone starting tomorrow through March 5th in the high school auditorium. Portersville Christian School Championship Games Recap
Portersville Christian School Championship Games took place this past Saturday, Feb. 25th with the junior high boys losing to Central Prep 32-16, junior high girls winning against Central 13-11, Varsity girls losing to Aquinas 44-27 and Varsity boys winning 55-45 against Cheswick. This is the first time in history that all four of Portersville Christian School’s basketball teams have gone on to the Championships in the same year. February Mayor’s Advisory Meeting
On February 23, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee met in council Chambers; parking problems were discussed, especially vehicles parking on corners posing difficulties to drivers. Also discussed were the All Terrain Vehicles on city streets. Mayor Court reported that Jozek is in poor health and commented that, “there will never be another K9 quite like Jozek”. The fight against drugs continues and there have been 375 arrests since Mayor Court took office. It was reported that 3 new businesses have recently opened in the borough: John DeCaro Law Firm, Consignment Shop and Smoking Dave’s Barbecue. Complaints were received about free-running dogs…
Holy Redeemer Catholic School to Close: “Schools Are Now a Business”
Heavy emotions filled Holy Redeemer Catholic School’s lunchroom yesterday during the public meeting about the school’s unexpected closure. Sister JoAnne, the principal of Holy Redeemer Catholic School stated during the meeting that she believes schools are no longer what they once were – they are now businesses that rely on attending students to fund raise and due to the few students attending the school, funding is the main contributing factor to the schools termination. “Schools are now a business, no matter where your child will attend – be it public or private, fundraising will be a thing, and without children…
