Back-to-back: Riverside defends WPIAL throne, collects 3A Championship

Last year, it took nine innings and only one run to give the Riverside Panthers the Class AA crown with a 1-0 win over Neshannock. In 2017, it was a new class and opponent but the end result was still the same as the Panthers cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Mount Pleasant Vikings at Wild Things Park to take the 3A baseball trophy back to North Sewickley Township. Faith Fellowship Baptist Church Seeks Youth for Vacation Bible School

Faith Fellowship Baptist Church, located right besides Domino’s Pizza in Ellport, is currently seeking students for their vacation bible school (VBS) during June 12-14. There is no cost for the VBS and a light snack will be provided Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday there will be a pizza party. Bible study is centered around learning about Jesus Christ while having fun participating in games, making crafts,  and being with other children/teens. PHOTO: Mayor Presents Beautification Award

For the past six years, Mayor Court has presented to area residents a special “Beautification Award” sign along with a local restaurant gift certificate. This year the first Award went to Mr. and Mrs. Anthony and Loraine Buzzelli of Meadowridge Drive. The Buzzelli’s were nominated by an undisclosed resident who felt that the Buzzelli’s had spend considerable time and effort into making their home surroundings extra special. Notice of Tax Office Hours

As of June the tax office located inside the municipal builiding will be open only one day a week, Wednesday, from 10a.m.-3p.m. In July, after school taxes come out, the office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10a.m.-3p.m.

VIDEO: Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade

The Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade was held Monday morning, honoring the men and women that died in military service for the United States of America. The parade started at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Memorial Bridge and concluded at the memorial park on Spring Avenue near Circle Playground with a free community picnic.

Ellwood City Farmers’ Market Set to Open for the Season

The Ellwood City Farmers Market located at the The Beaver Avenue Parking Lot (500 Block) will be opening again for the season starting this Saturday, June 3. A wide variety of things will be sold at the market mostly including homemade and organic items and food. The market will run every Saturday during the summer through October 7th from 8:00a.m. until noon. Live music from 9:00 – 11:00a.m. Free parking downtown.

Mayor Warns of IRS Phone Scam

Mayor Court has received several phone calls from residents about the “IRS” asking for money for back taxes. Once again several residents (especially elderly residents) are being targeted by phone calls stating that they owe the IRS money for back taxes or fees due to them. The caller tells the resident they must return their call or the IRS (SCAMMER) will begin the procedure to prosecute them for money owed. Mayor Court reminds residents that this is a scam that has been popping up throughout many communities targeting the most vulnerable, specifically the elderly, for quite some time and they…

Wednesday, May 31, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. Paint The Town Purple Survivor Luncheon Sunday, June 4, 2017 2:00 – 5:00 P.M.
