Defense Shines for Both Teams, Vikings Win by Late Field Goal

Defense wins championships. It’s the famous phrase by many in football. Both teams on the field friday night proved worthy of winning based upon defensive play; however, only one team may prevail. The Hopewell Vikings were able to get that last push to win last night’s game over the Wolverines. CCBC Announces President’s and Dean’s Lists for Summer Terms

Monaca, PA – Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) is proud to release 112 names of students who achieved President’s List and Dean’s List honors for the summer 2017 semester. In order to be named to the President’s List, students must have completed at least 12 hours of credit-bearing courses in which performance grades are awarded, and have received a 3.75 grade-point average or above for the semester. Dean’s List honorees must have completed at least 12 hours of credit-bearing courses in which performance grades are awarded and have received a 3.25 to 3.74 grade-point average for the semester.  …

BodyShop To Host Jam-A-Thon: Hurricane Harvey Benefit Sept 14, 2017

Local fitness studio, BodyShop Group Fitness, will deviate from its normal schedule to host a special 3 hour hip hop inspired workout with the aim to help with the relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. Two weeks ago, Texas was hit with unprecedented rainfall from Hurricane Harvey. While most of the immediate needs of food and water are being met, thousands of families are returning to find their homes nearly destroyed by the damage and practically uninhabitable. Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 Meeting

Corona D’Italia will be holding their monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 13 at 5p.m. at Pizza Joe’s. Plans for the annual Columbus Day dinner to be held in October will be finalized. All dues must be paid to date. Committees will report on the 100th anniversary plans.


Lincoln Class of 1954 Monthly Meeting

Pudue LaCava hosted the Lincoln Class of 1954 “Nite at the Movies” committee wrap-up meeting on Thursday Auagust 18 at 1p.m. at her Mt. Vernon Drive home. The session began with lunch provided by the committee members and served by Ilene Gardner and LaCava. Dessert featured Gardner’s homemade pies in honor of the successful class event. Paul Abraham and James Spielvogel opened the business session. James Gillespie gave the fund raising report and distributed tickets for the August fund raiser.  He will continue the monthly fund raising to June of 2018. Meet the Players: Stiefel Hockey League

The Stiefel Hockey League is just ending their successful summer season and entering their fall season, which is expected to start mid-September. The league is made up of a diverse crowd of players, most doing it just for some fun, friendly competition. Currently, the league has at least five teams already signed up for the fall season but is still accepting team and individual sign-ups. Riverside and Lincoln Football Tickets for Sale

Student tickets for Riverside High School’s home game Friday will only be available from 7:15 a.m. to 8 a.m. daily this week at the district athletic office. No sales will occur during lunch. Student tickets are $2, but are not available at the gate before the game. Tickets at the gate are $5. Ellwood City vs. Hopewell tickets are being pre-sold at the high school, no student tickets will be sold at the gate. Student tickets are $3 and adults are $5.

New Castle Store Owner Offering Reward for Information on Robbery Suspects

According to Michelle Cioffi’s Facebook post, her business, Puff N Snuff on Croton Ave. was broken into last night with a rock smashed through the front door. “This is what I walked into this morning. A rock through my door and my cigarette racks emptied,” her Facebook post states. “This is why no one wants to bring new businesses and jobs to our community.” She posted security camera photos of the suspects and is offering a reward for anyone who has information on who committed the crime.
