What’s Open for Veteran’s Day

Veteran’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, prompting many government agencies and court systems to observe the holiday today, November 10. Here are the openings and closings you can expect: Banks: The vast majority of banks, such as the Big Four — JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citibank — should be open today and will be closed on Saturday. Post offices: Post offices are open today but closed Saturday. Mail pickup and delivery are on the same schedule. Libraries: Most public libraries are closed on Saturday and some may be closed today. Winter Weather in Forecast

You may have noticed a couple snow flurries flying around this morning, which is just the start to the winter weather season. According to the 10-day weather forecast on Weather.com snow showers are expected in the upcoming weeks. Important things to keep in mind: it might be warm enough to rain during the day but the rain may freeze over night causing black ice, bridges ice before roads, and the new anti- dog tethering law is in effect this winter for the first time. Ellwood City School Board Regular Meeting Recap

With the newly elected board members among those in attendance, the Ellwood City School Board conducted its regular meeting and schedule of business Thursday night. Beyond the scheduled topics discussed, Kathy McCommons, Barb Wilson and Norm Boots all spoke briefly to the audience and board while Kathy Pansera, who did not win her seat back during Tuesday’s election, read a statement centered around the outsourcing subject. “I ask the union to please negotiate and remember the students and the community that they serve,” Pansera said. “I hope and pray that the union will choose to negotiate in good faith and…

Public Invited to Union Employee Press Conference Tonight

The following press release was submitted: Ellwood City, PA – Ellwood City School’s blue-collar union employees, members of 32BJ SEIU, will set the record straight on stalled negotiations with the School Board on Thursday, November 9 at 6:45 p.m. outside of Lincoln High School. The District’s longtime custodians and food service workers have been in talks for a new contract with the Board since March. Cast of Portersville Christian School’s Production of Antigone Announced

Local students in Portersville Christian School’s Production of Antigone – Cast and Crew Portersville, PA. The cast and crew of Portersville Christian School’s Fine Arts Committee’s modern English production of Sophocles’ Antigone has been announced.
