Previous Council President Appointed Chairman on Housing Authority Committee

Previous Council President, Connie MacDonald, was appointed yesterday to an open seat on the Lawrence County Housing Authority committee – filling the unexpired term of authority chairman William Betz, who has moved out of the county. MacDonald, who lost Ellwood City Council reelection in 2017 – ending his Council term officially in December, joins four other members, Rev. David Young, Debby Hennon, Lee Ann Fulena and Holly Girdwood, and will now represent Ellwood City Borough on the housing committee. Ellwood City Area Historical Society “We Can Do It” Recap

Everett Bleakney, Board President of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society sent in a recap of the successful “We Can Do It!” exhibit: “The WW II “We Can Do It!” Senator John Heinz History Center exhibit was a huge success. We were impressed with so many young students that had an interest in it. Thanks to both the Lincoln and  Riverside High Schools for taking advantage of the exhibit by holding  history classes here. Wolverines Cruise Past Mohawk, Await Senior Night Friday

Playing with some confidence, and perhaps some swagger after their rivalry victory last Friday, the Ellwood City Wolverines emerged victorious with a 58-26 win against Mohawk Area on Tuesday.  Junior Rick Pitrelli scored a game high 13 points (5-10 FG, 6 rebounds, 2 assists) for the boys team that has clinched a playoff berth and will turn its attention to Senior Night this Friday. CDC on the Flu: Entire Country Experiencing Flu at Same Time

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is aware of this year’s flu epidemic and held a press conference last week with their Flu experts to update the public on the current flu statistics and outlook. Dr. Dan Jernigan, Director of the influenza division in CDC’s national center for immunization and respiratory diseases hosted the conference, starting out by saying it has been a tough flu season so far this year. PHOTOS: Winter Wine and Brew Fest

For the second year and with a lot of great food, drinks and entertainment, the Ellwood City Winter Wine and Brew Fest was enjoyed by many this weekend. The proceeds will benefit the Ellwood City Revitalization in their quest to raise $90,000 to create 18-foot high triangular arches upon which lights will hang to provide a longer season for acts performing at the five-year-old, $2.2 million Ellwood City Community Plaza. Broc Boariu scored 17 points to lead Ellwood City to a 63-54 victory over Riverside on Friday. Ellwood City Wolverines grabbed a second quarter lead that ballooned to as many as 21 points in the third quarter, but had to withstand a furious Riverside comeback to hold on to its victory. Portersville Christian School Information Night/Open House

Portersville Christian School will hold an Information Night/Open House at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 27, for families interested in enrolling students for the 2018-2019 school year. The school is accepting student applications and registrations prior to the release of next year’s tuition schedule at the end of March.  In addition to kindergarten, there are openings in most grade levels for fall of 2018.  Interested families who have students entering kindergarten and grades 7 and 9 are encouraged to apply early, since these grades tend to fill up fast.
