Wampum’s Wine & Beer Festival Set For March 24

The Wampum Area Revitalization Committee will hold a Wine & Beer Festival from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on March 24th at the Wampum Gymnasium, located at 372 Main Street. Regional craft beer and wine makers will be present to offer tastings and products. Food and appetizers will be provided by the Lawrence County Career and Technology Center ( LCCTC) Restaurant Trade Program direct by Jennifer Price. Ellwood City Organizations Dismayed by Council Decision to Charge Events Recoup Fees

“I’ve been a volunteer since I was 19, and I’m choked up by what I’m seeing,” visitor Stephanie Muntean said to council during yesterday’s Ellwood City Borough Council agenda meeting. “As taxpayers, I want to have events, not bare streets. We pay taxes, give us something back.” Muntean’s comments echoed those of over half a dozen speakers and over 50 visitors, all protesting a decision by council to charge organizations for the costs of events held in the borough. The 2018 PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be taking place this week at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and will feature five hopeful Panther swimmers. Ellwood School Board Names Barb Wilson to Chair Security Committee and Hires Security Firm

At its regular meeting on Thursday, March 8, the Ellwood City School Board appointed board member Barb Wilson as chairwoman of an ad hoc security committee and arranged for a security firm to provide an assessment of the district’s four buildings. The committee is a response to the Florida school shooting on Feb. 14 and follows visitor concerns expressed at the agenda meeting on March 6. The Ellwood Area Egg Hunt Committee is in need of donations to help make their 23rd annual community Easter Egg hunt a success. This year, the 23rd Annual Community Easter Egg hunt will take place Saturday, March 24th in Ewing Park for ALL area children ages 10 and under.  The events start at 11:00 and also at this time the 4 & under hunts will start, followed at 12:00pm with all other hunts beginning.
