Bernstine to Host Paper Shredding Event on July 28

ELLWOOD CITY – Rep. Aaron Bernstine will host a free paper shredding event on Saturday, July 28, from 9-11 a.m. at Geneva College, Parking Lot E, located at 3200 College Ave., Beaver Falls. Ellwood City Library Activities for Week of July 23

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include: WEDNESDAY 10 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” (resumes on Wednesdays) a weekly program that is free and open to the public. It is designed to help reduce the stresses of everyday life. All adults are welcome. 1 p.m. — “Building Buddies,” a new program of fun and learning for toddlers and preschoolers. Jordan Brown’s Conviction in Murder Of Father’s Pregnant Fiancée Overturned

HARRISBURG, Pa. – It’s a case that has captured national and international attention — when at 11-years-old Jordan Brown of Lawrence County was charged with killing his father’s pregnant fiance nearly ten years ago. On Wednesday, in a unanimous decision, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Brown’s conviction on a first-degree murder charge. Back on February 20th of 2009, Jordan Brown was 11-years-old when he was charged with the shotgun slaying of 26-year-old Kenzie Marie Houk and her unborn son.  Prosecutors said he committed the murder and then got on the school bus minutes later. Council Approves Murals for Underpass

At Monday’s meeting, Ellwood City borough council approved a request by a local artist to paint murals on the Fifth Street Underpass. Woodrow Cowher, of Ellwood City, had previously painted murals on the side of Sweet Caroline’s on 507 Lawrence. His project is sponsored and funded by the Ellwood City organization Kitchen Cabinet and the Hoyt Foundation. The paintings will be on the outside walls of the underpass and according to Kitchen Cabinet member Earla Marshall, will require little maintenance due to a protective coating Cowher uses. BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing Unveils 3 New Career Programs

(New Castle) BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing has become the first of Butler County Community College’s five additional sites to offer associate of applied science degree programs in office administration-medical and in accounting, and the second in office administration-executive – career programs that will allow students to develop skills needed to enter the workforce immediately after graduation. Students completing an associate degree in office administration-medical can work as secretaries or administrative assistants in a medical environment. Ellwood City 15u Softball Team Brings Home 2018 Lawrence County Championship

The team traveled to historic Dean Park in New Castle on Thursday evening to capture the championship hardware.  They started fast as they plated the first 10 runs of the game in the opening 3 innings to cruise home with an 11-5 victory over the Union Scotties. Potter Baseball Tour Stops In Ellwood City

The Potter Baseball Tour made its ninth annual stop in Ellwood City on Friday, July 13. Led by former Ellwood City baseball standout Jeff Potter, the tour visits over 30 cities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio and Virginia throughout July. The first tour game was played nine years ago on July 2, 2010 at Sanders Field. Since then the tour has become a staple in towns throughout the Middle Atlantic states. The tour kicked off this season in Washington, D.C. on June 30. Among the stops along the way are Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Morgantown, Gettysburg  and Baltimore before concluding the tour on…
