Ellwood City held their annual holiday events this past weekend – Friday night’s Light Up Night and Saturday afternoon’s Christmas Parade invited families and friends downtown Ellwood City for holiday festivities. A cool and clear night helped set the stage for Light Up Night with the lighting of the large tree in the community plaza, but as with the annual parade, what feels like annual rain was in the forecast. Library Activities For The Week Of December 3

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. 46th Annual Wampum Area Christmas Parade

Wampum, PA – On Thursday evening, November 29th, hundreds of local folks enjoyed a full fireworks display preceded by Wampum’s “Light Up the Town” where homemade luminaries lined main Street and Wampum’s old-fashioned decorations were lighted for the season. Refreshments were served along with pockets of entertainment including cloggers, wood carving demonstrations and Carolers were found throughout Main Street. And horse-drawn carriage rides were available all evening. Boyfriend Leaves Girlfriend With Swollen Eye On Monday, November 26, Pennsylvania State Police were called to a home on Mill Bridge Road in Slippery Rock Township at 8:18 p.m. on reports of a boyfriend beating his girlfriend. The victim called police with the report that she and her boyfriend, Dwayne Okeson, 39, had been in an argument when things got physical. She said that Okeson had choked her, punched her, and grabbed her by the back of the head. She said that these actions had happened in the home’s sunroom. Bernstine Announces Grant for Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today announced a $6,500 grant has been awarded to Butler County Area Vocational Technical School (AVTS) for the purchase of new equipment aligned to training students in high-demand occupations. Awarded by the Department of Education, the grants will be used for the purchase of an engine lathe and tooling set. The new equipment will be used to support the machine technology program. VIDEO: Multi-Vehicle Crash In Slippery Rock Township

According to multiple news reports, a nine-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer closed down parts of Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township Wednesday evening. According to video reports, numerous vehicles, including a New Castle Transit bus, were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Routes 422 and 388 (near Sheetz) when a tractor-trailer did not slow down before ramming into the last stopped vehicle. It created a chain reaction causing the vehicles to slam into one another. Multiple injuries were reported. Ellwood City United Fund – Annual Fund Drive Update

The Ellwood City United Fund c1mp1ign started October 1, 2018, and will continue until December 31, 2018. The campaign committee met on this week, Monday, November 26, to review the number of contributions up to this day. The committee had set one goal of $50,000.00 to provide funding for the eight agencies they support (Ellwood Family Center, People in Need, Ellwood City Public Library, LARK Enterprises, Boy & Girl Scouts, Human Services, and Ellwood Education Foundation). Mount Airy Casino Public Hearing Next Week

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will hold a public hearing next week for the proposed Mount Airy Casino planned to be built in Big Beaver Borough next year. According to the application made available earlier this week, the proposed 110-acre site will be located on the north side of 1-76, east of 1-376 and south of Fairlane Boulevard. It is proposed to construct a casino facility consisting of 40 gaming tables (10 seats per table) and 750 slot machines, resulting in 1,150 gaming positions. The Tax Office would like to remind everyone that starting Tuesday, December 4, office hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The office will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
