KDKA reporter Ralph Iannotti once again brought recent details in a video posted over the weekend following the “on-again, off-again payroll mess” at the Ellwood City Medical Center. According to the video report, the medical center failed to pay its December electric bill, which has cause some in the community to want to take action. Mayor Anthony Court said the borough would “ignore penalty or interest charges on the electric bill for the next three months.” The only stipulation, the Borough’s mayor stated in the published report is the money saved has to go to help some of the hospital employees….


Wolverines Notch A Comeback Victory Over Lancers

Ellwood City boys basketball team gained a come-from-behind victory against Neshannock 58-55 on Friday with the help of Steve Antuono, who scored game-high 27 points. After trailing 36-32 after three quarters, and by as many as six points in several occasions in the fourth quarter, the Wolverines clawed back to victory, scoring the last seven points of the contest. WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-16) today sent an official letter to the U.S. Department of Labor to help ensure a speedy resolution to recent paycheck problems for employees at Ellwood City Hospital in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Lincoln High School Alumni Benefit Concert

On Saturday, May 11, the Lincoln High School Concert Choir will be celebrating their 75th Anniversary. In honor of this milestone, the choir will be putting on an Alumni Benefit Concert. Any and all proceeds will benefit the Cindy Pertile Scholarship Fund. This fun will provide two types of scholarships annually. One scholarship goes towards the annual Concert Choir trip and the other goes towards a graduating member of the LHS music department to help further their education after high school. Lady Wolverines Defend Home Court, Beat Beaver Falls

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines defended home court Monday night in a backyard battle with neighboring Beaver Falls, defeating the Tigers 53-48.  Ellwood City used points from distance in pivotal third quarter and later at the free throw line to secure the section win. Three out of six player were in double figures including senior Isabella Roth with a team-high 15 points (four 3-pointers; 3-8 from the line). VIDEO: Lawmaker Calls For Investigation Into Ellwood Medical Center

Employees are still on the job, keeping the Ellwood City Medical Center open and safe, but without pay.  This may change as state and Lawrence County lawmakers are now calling for an investigation into the medical center. Last week, employees finally received good checks owed before Christmas – two weeks late – amid a series of recently reported payroll problems. According to a KDKA report, services have been dropped and departments have been closed. The century old medical center has gone from around 400 people to about 190. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will open their first meeting of the year on Monday, January 14 at 7:00 pm.
