Ellwood City Junior High Softball Team Improves Record to 4-1 After Win Against Riverside

The Ellwood City Junior High Softball Team improved their season record to 4-1 after a victory against their cross town rival Riverside on Monday night. In the month of April, the team has only suffered a 9-5 loss to Mohawk and is currently on a four game win streak. In their last game against Riverside, the Wolverines took care of business 10-1 with pitchers Emma Bogacki and Amber McQuiston leading the way. Tenaris Bringing Its Koppel Steel Plant Back Online

According to its website news release, Tenaris is pushing ahead with plans to increase its operations across the US, bringing its facilities, including its Koppel and Ambridge plants, back online. With the ongoing expansion, Tenaris is working to boost its employee base in the States by about 1,000. Tenaris US President Luca Zanotti has toured the company’s Pennsylvania facilities this week and, according to the news release, addressed employees at its Koppel melt shop and Ambridge seamless pipe mill, informing teams of the company’s plans to grow its workforce and restart activity at the two plants. “There are encouraging trends…

Borough Awards Waste Removal Bid

Ellwood City Borough Council awarded the bid for collection of refuse, recycling, and yard waste to Valley Waste during Monday’s meeting. Borough Manager David Allen said garbage has been on the top of his priority list since he arrived in his position at the borough a little more than two years ago. He said the new program provides the most options possible for smooth, efficient, and cost friendly removal of waste. “We negotiated fantastic pricing to hit all needs and concerns of the citizens,” he said. VIDEO: Local Man Seriously Injured After Heavy Machinery Accident

According to a Pittsburgh news source, a Lawrence County man was seriously injured when he fell off some heavy machinery and was subsequently run over by it. According to a fire chief, a man was operating a brush hog and had fallen off. He was working in his yard on Dutch Run Road near Ellwood City, fell off and a neighbor had heard him yelling for help. The neighbor then called for help. The man was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh “with injuries all over his body” according to the video report. source: pittsburgh.cbslocal.com

Belzyck and Kralic Shine for Riverside in Beaver County Championships

The Beaver County Championships were held this past Saturday at Riverside High School and teams from all over Beaver County came to compete at one of the first big invitational of the 2021 season. Seniors Colby Belzyck and Graham Kralic from Riverside High School each took first place in more than one event to propel the Panthers to another championship. The Panthers won the invitational in 2019, but last years meet was cancelled due to COVID-19. Belzyck took first in the 800 meter run, 1,600 meter run, and was a part of the winning 1,600 meter relay team. Kralic took…

Ellwood City Borough Council will meet in person tonight, April 19, at 5:30 for a special meeting where council will consider the Intermunicipal transfer of liquor license (Barry Quick Mart, LLC). Two Area Clean-Up Days Announced

Both Brush Creek Park and River Road have scheduled Clean-Up Days in the month of April. Brush Creek has scheduled their Clean-Up Day for Thursday, April 22nd from Noon until Dusk. Volunteers are needed for this event to help out the community.  Take pride in your community and help clean up by picking up garbage, sticks, and brush. Bring a team, ask friends and co-workers.
