ECASD’s Board of Directors Approve Traffic Study at Site of Proposed Softball Field

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors approved a traffic study of the Ewing Park Property where a softball field is proposed to be built during Thursday’s regular meeting. The study will be conducted by Gateway Engineers, at a cost not to exceed $4,000. All directors except for Norman Boots, Kathy Galbreath, and Kevin Boariu voted in favor of the study, and Director Claire Fauzey was absent from the meeting. Galbreath asked if the study is necessary at this time, and Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley said that the zoning board will require the study so doing it now…

Real Estate Transfers For July 2024

The sunshine and warmer temperatures had area residents on the move in July! The summer season offers great weather for the big move and to get settled into your new estate. According to RocketHomes.com, homes in Lawrence County sold in July 2024 at an median price of $150,050, just barely above (0.4% increase) more than they did a year ago. Additionally, and more specifically, homes in Ellwood City sold for almost the identical price ($164,900, -0.1%) than they did a year ago in July. Justin Hand End College Golf Career With 2nd Straight Academic All-American Honor

Justin Hand was among five golf standouts from Tiffin University to be named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for the 2023-24 season. The 6’0″ senior and Riverside High School graduate earned a major in Accounting at Tiffin. He graduated from Tiffin University on May 4th Magna Cum Laude and started his MBA Program in Data Analytics at Tiffin University on May 14th. He is the son of Bill and Michelle. PHOTOS: PA Turnpike Beaver River Project Continues Into Its Next Stage

People in the area will see some piers and beams are in place as the project continues into its next stage. The project is currently in stage four of the eight project stages. Turnpike travel lanes have been shifted southward to accommodate construction activities for the new bridge and roadway alignment. The contractor has completed some of the piers for the new westbound Beaver River bridge crossing. Free Basketball Camp Draws 42 Participants

The free co-ed basketball camp at Ewing Park for 6 to 12-year-olds was held Monday, July 29th through Friday, Aug. 2nd from 10 a.m. to Noon. Forty-two campers were taught ball handling, dribbling, passing, defense, foul shot and layup shooting form and some rules of the game. The camp concluded Friday with games of knock out, horse, a shooting competition and games of five versus five. They were also treated to a pizza party. Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! On August 16th, Riverside parents will receive an automated call and email with kindergarten teacher assignment. Ellwood City School District Offices and LHS Offices Closed August 5-9

In a temporary closure to help address plumbing upgrades, the Ellwood City Area School District Offices and Lincoln High School Offices will be closed for a week beginning Monday, August 5th. “We are closing because water has to be turned off the entire week for plumbing upgrades,” said Wes Shipley, Superintendent, in an email. Ellwood City Falls Short In 73rd Little League Tournament; Zito Earns Homerun Derby Crown

After collecting an opening round win on Tuesday in the 73rd Annual Little League Tournament, Ellwood City squad could not advance any further, falling twice on Saturday, first to Laurel and again to Neshannock, each by a 5-2 count that eliminated the tournament host. Neshannock earned the tournament championship with two victories over Laurel on Sunday. Ellwood City’s Joey Zito won the the 23rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament Home Run Derby at Freidhoff Field. Zito launched eight home runs to defeat 29 other contestants from the tournament.
