ECASD Board of Directors Approves Helling Stadium Project

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors awarded the Helling Stadium project to Fred L. Burns, Inc., Shippenville, Pa, at an overall cost of $2,562,405. The major portion of that project will be the installation of Astro Turf at a cost of $2,420,000, which includes removal of dirt, addition of drainage, and labor. In addition to the Astro Turf, the track will be resurfaced with a long-lasting synthetic material at a cost of $64,150 and $7,380 for the school colors to be added. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT W/ DEADLY WEAPON: On April 1st, Chippewa Police responded to Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Township, Beaver County for a shots fired call. Upon arrival, at approximately 4:30 p.m., it was determined that known juvenile, of Darlington, fired multiple shots at two male victims while they were in the parking lot of the business on Blackhawk Road. One of the rounds fired by the known juvenile struck an occupied structure. The police asked PA State Police to assume responsibility of the investigation. No injuries were reported. Jeffrey Bales To Speak at EC Historical Society

Jeffrey“Jeff” Bales will be the guest speaker at the upcoming Ellwood City Area Historical Society meeting on Monday evening at 7:00 pm. Jeff Bales Jr., a native of New Castle, currently lives near Culpeper, Virginia. While growing up, Bales and his family lived in such places as Scotland, Morocco and Guam. He attended nine different schools on four continents, including the former Wampum Public School and Koppel Elementary, where he finished third grade. The Ellwood Area Egg Hunt Committee will be holding their 27th community Easter Egg hunt this Saturday April 9th. The event is starting at 11:00 a.m. in Ewing Park, Ellwood City, PA for all area children ages 10 and under. WOLVERINES WIN NAILBITER OVER UNION There’s nothing better than a close game with controversy early in the season. The Lady Wolverines traveled to Union yesterday and came home with a 8-7 victory. PHOTOS: Riverside, Ellwood City Track & Field

Riverside hosted a track meet Tuesday afternoon against Shenango and Ellwood City. The visiting Wildcats collected victories over Riverside (79.5-70.5) and Ellwood City (133-17) while Riverside was able to defeat the Wolverines (124-26). The teams will next look forward to the Beaver County Track Championships scheduled for April 9, 2022. Franklin Township Announces Shadyrest & Soap Run Road Cleanup

Help keep Franklin Township clean and beautiful. A cleanup is planned for Shadyrest & Soap Run Road on Friday, April 8th (Rain date, April 18th).
