ECPD Completes Tactical Entry & Life Saving Measure Training

The Ellwood City Police Department would like to thank Samuel Teolis for allowing the use of a vacant structure to conduct a tactical entry and life saving measure training. On Thursday, June 9th, the Police Department, along with the Ellwood City Fire Department, utilized Mr. Teolis’s vacant structure to complete this training as a team to assist in keeping our tactics fresh. This training was completed in conjunction with the Ellwood City Fire Department, who provided first-hand knowledge in tactical medical assistance and preservation of life skills. WXED To Offer Basic Sign Language Classes In July

Did you know – there are 30 million hearing impaired people in the United States? Get your non-verbal cues in order and learn sign language this summer! Ellwood City radio station 107.3 WXED is offering a basic american sign language class starting in July. The easy, fun, and affordable class will take place across four Saturdays in July, beginning on Saturday, July 9th.  Classes will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the radio station headquarters located at 316 Sixth Street, Ellwood City, PA 16117. Ellwood City Summer Playground Program To Begin June 15

The Borough of Ellwood City is now taking registration forms for its Summer Playground Program for residents of Ellwood City. The program will begin on Wednesday, June 15th and it will run Monday through Friday (weather permitting and excluding holiday breaks), from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The program is for children 5-12 years of age. Lunch will be provided. Transportation is also available via bus. PIAA Playoffs: Panthers Fall To Neshannock In Extra Innings

Thursday’s game at against Neshannock was a heartbreaker for the Riverside Panthers, as they lost an early lead, could not capitalize late, and end up on the losing end of the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinal contest in extra innings. The game was tied at four with Neshannock batting in the top of the eleventh when Jake Rynd singled on a 2-2 count, scoring the game winning run to advance the Lancers to the PIAA semifinals. ECASD Board of Directors Hires Boys Basketball Head Coach

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Scott Dibble to serve as the head boys basketball coach. In 2019, Dibble stepped down after serving for two seasons as Bishop Canevin’s girls basketball head coach and two years previously as an assistant. The Crusaders won WPIAL titles three of the four years and were state runners-up in 2017 and 2018. He also coached the girls teams for three seasons at New Castle and a dozen at Erie’s Villa Maria, where his teams reached the finals six times. Charlene Hall wants to get music into the community, and to teach as many people as time will allow her. “Music is so beneficial in so many aspects of life,” she said. That’s why Charlene opened Wanderland Piano at 311 5th Street in Ellwood City. Since then, her list of students has skyrocketed. Local Boxer Headed to National Golden Gloves

Local standout boxer Devon Siegfried is about to “Hit” the national stage. Siegfried made it to the National Golden Gloves, which will be held in Oklahoma August 15-20th. Ellwood City Youth Wins State DAR Service Award

Hayden Slade, a rising senior at Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, is the first place winner of the Pennsylvania State Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s (PSSDAR’s) Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award for his service to veterans and our troops. Hayden is sponsored by the Pymatuning Chapter in Sharon, where his grandmother Theresa Harkless Woods is a member. His State level submission also went on to win the Eastern Division of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).
