Library Activities for the week of July 27

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. NOTE The Library will continue doing curbside pickup. Please call us with the book(s), authors, genre or recommended material you would like to check out and our staff will see that it is in alphabetical order in the lobby for you. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. All patrons must wear a mask when entering the lobby and wait until there are less than three people in the lobby….


#6 Winner of The Beautification Award

Mayor Anthony J. Court announced the final winner for the 2020 Beautification Awards. Winner #6 is Sam Barry of Madison Avenue. Congratulations, Sam, on a job well done. Sam was presented with a yard sign and a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Mayor Court thanks all of the citizens who submitted nominations this year and stated it  was “another successful year for this program!” “Congratulations to all  the winners and I am already looking forward to next year which will be the 11th year of this successful program,” said Court.


ECASD New Board Director Has Determined Focus on Education

Matt Morella is back and has his sights set on education. Morella is no stranger to the Ellwood City Area School District Board of Directors as he has served on the board before. He is also invested in the community. Morella grew up in Ellwood City alongside his brother and sister before spreading his wings to earn a BA in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently preparing for the Bar Exam after earning a Juris Doctor (JD) from Pitt’s School of Law. Perry Township Announces Annual Clean-Up Day

The Perry Township Annual Clean-up Day will be held on August 1, 2020 There will be a $10.00 fee for each load: Pick-Up or Automobile. For any load larger than a pick-up or automobile, a fee of $50.00 per load will be charged. No extra large trucks or tractor trailers will be received. There will be two collection sites: the parking lots of the Perry Township Municipal Building and the Wurtemburg Perry Twp. Volunteer Fire Department. ECPD Response To Local Bear Sightings

Pennsylvania’s bear population has been increasing for decades, and at the same time, many people have moved into the areas where bears reside, but for many in Ellwood City, a bear sighting may be few and far between.  However, recently there have been social media posts and reports of bears roaming the local neighborhoods in the Borough of Ellwood City. Ellwood City Borough Announces Update Of CodeRED Notification System

The Borough of Ellwood City has recently updated its account with OnSolve, providers of the CodeRED high-speed notification solution and the CodeRED Weather Warning service. This no-charge update will allow message recipients to easily identify calls coming through the systems. Message recipient’s Caller ID will read OnSolve or 866-419-5000 for CodeRED calls. And for CodeRED Weather Warning calls, either OnSolve or the number 800-566-9780 will appear on Caller ID displays. Word Alive Church To Host Free Drive-In Movie

Looking for a fun Friday night family activity? Head over to Word Alive Church tomorrow night (July 24) for a free drive-in movie night. “Word Alive is putting this event on to give a safe fun event for the community during the pandemic,” said Word Alive Church Pastor Matthew Reynolds. “We will also offer free popcorn and snacks (handed out in prepackaged bags). US Dept of Agriculture To Distribute Rabies Vaccinations By Helicopter In Beaver County

The United States Department of Agriculture will begin distribution of rabies vaccinations by helicopter in Beaver County on August 10, and continue thru August 17, as part of their National Rabies Management Program. Baits containing the rabies vaccination will be dispersed by helicopter in order to reach desired locations that would otherwise be difficult to access. During this time period, area residents may see helicopters moving within the same area multiple times in a slow manner. COVID-19 Friendly Community Nights

This weekend and into the week, two organizations have decided to host COVID-19 friendly community night events. On Friday, July 24, there will be an outdoor movie night and concert hosted at the Ewing Park Stage. Food will be served at 7:00 and on the menu is meatball sandwiches, penne, salad, deserts, and drinks. To meet CDC requirements for food, all those serving will be masked and gloved. At 7:30 a concert will be held, playing worship music similar to what listeners here on K-LOVE, and finally at 9:00 the move “The Sandlot” will be played in its G-rated form…

All one has to do is listen to some of the board meetings online to get an idea of just how toxic a few members have made the entire board. Is the public aware there are members who are voting on agenda items brought up simply because their own kids are in that particular sport/event?
