Riverside Girls Track Knocked Off In WPIAL Quarterfinals, Look Towards PIAA District 7 Championships

On a muggy, gray Western Pennsylvania afternoon early in May the Riverside Girls Track & Field Team finished in third place in the 2023 WPIAL Class 2A Track & Field quarterfinals. The Lady Panthers were defeated by Greensburg Central Catholic and Winston Thurston on May 4th, coming in third place out of the four team quarterfinal pod. Western PA Soap Box Derby, a fun family event, is Saturday June 3rd, 2023 in Ambridge, PA on 14th Street. Each year any child between the ages of 7 and 18 race down the hill in hopes of winning their way to the All American Championship in Akron Ohio in July and race against other racers from all over America. VIDEO: Route 18 Reopens After Train Derailment In New Castle

Pittsburgh – PennDOT District 11 has announced a portion of Route 18 has reopened after a closure to traffic due to an overnight train derailment in the City of New Castle on Thursday, May 11th. Nine Norfolk Southern train cars derailed near its intersection with Route 18 between Mt. Jackson Road (Route 108) and Blanchard Street.  PennDOT personnel were on scene to assess the condition of the roadway once the rail cars are removed. HARASSMENT: On April 6th at approximately 1:28 a.m., PA State Police responded to a report of a domestic altercation at a residence on Spring Avenue Extension, Wayne Township. Slade Recognized as 2023 National Merit Scholarship Winner at ECASD Board of Directors Meeting

Hayden Slade, a senior at Lincoln High School, was recognized during Thursdays Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting after being named a 2023 National Merit Scholarship winner. More than1.5 million students entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors. Slade was named one of 15,000 finalists in February and was just named an official winner on Wednesday. He was one of 2,500 winners across the nation. 2023 Riverside Prom Courts Announced

Riverside Junior/Senior promenade will take place Friday, May 12, at the Riverside High School auditorium. Students will participate in the Grand March at 6 pm, starting in the gymnasium and proceeding to the auditorium, where the stage has been decorated in this year’s theme, A Night in Vegas. Promenade will conclude with the crowning of Prom Queen by Liz Frazer, this year’s Riverside Homecoming Queen. The Riverside Lady Panthers scored eight runs in the sixth inning on its way to a 12-1 victory over Hopewell on Wednesday. Prior to the game four Panther seniors – Madison Fryer, Sam Rosenberger, Braley Zappia, and Aliya Ottaviani – were recognized as part of the Senior Night festivities.
