POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: Paula Schwartz, 39, of Ellwood City, is charged with Theft after an incident reported on September 18th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 3:00 p.m., the owner of Uni-Mart reported a theft that occurred at his business and advised police that his employee, Schwartz, stole money out of the cash drawer and five cartons of cigarettes overnight. Police reviewed surveillance and paperwork from the store that cooperated with the owners report.  Police contact Schwartz at her residence and spoke with Schwartz who related she was dealing with a mental health episode and later admitted to the theft….


Keller Advances To WPIAL 2A Individual Championship

Ellwood City golf standout Jordan Keller has advanced to the 2nd round of the WPIAL Class 2A Boys Individual Championship. The junior finished with a 6-over round of 78 on Monday at the Par-72 Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport. Keller fired a 38 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine. He collected a birdie on the par-5 14th hole. Riverside’s Hunter Garvin (43-44, +15) and Ellwood City’s Nate Kennedy (43-46, +17) participated on Monday but each missed the cut. The Ellwood City girls tennis team defeated Beaver Falls 5-0 on Monday and with the victory have qualified for the WPIAL playoffs. Ellwood City will be the focus of the Columbia Gas Meter Move Out Program. Columbia Gas implemented the Meter Move Out Program to comply with a requirement from The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to locate all gas meters and regulators outside and above ground. Learn more about the program here. Smiley, Wolverines Rout Freedom 43-3; Panthers Down New Brighton

Quarterback Chris Smiley accounted for four touchdowns as Ellwood City defeated Freedom 43-3 on the road Friday night in MAC Section play. The victory moved the Wolverines to 4-0 on the season, their first 4-0 start since 1997. Ellwood City, PA – ELLWOOD City Forge last night experienced an act of violence perpetrated by an intruder that resulted in the death of a team member. updated: Friday, September 20th 9:52 a.m. According to numerous media outlets, Ellwood City police have confirmed one male is dead and a suspect is in custody after a shooting Thursday night at Ellwood City Forge. The shooting happened inside the facility around 6:30 p.m. according to Mayor Anthony Court. It is unclear how many people were in the manufacturing facility during the incident.
