Council Reorganizes, Reappoints Borough Manager

Ellwood City Borough Council held its reorganizational meeting on Tuesday January 3. In a unanimous vote, Brad Ovial was chosen as President and Michele Lamenza was chosen as Vice President. Borough Manager Kevin Swogger was reappointed in a 6-0 vote (Lamenza was absent from the meeting), for a two-year employment agreement for $80,000. General election incumbants George Celli and Caleb Cragle were sworn into office as well as new Councilman the Rev. James “Jimmy” Johnson. Lady Wolverines Earn 62-40 Victory Over Rival Riverside

The Ellwood City girls basketball traveled across the mighty Connoqunessing River Thursday evening and earned a 62-40 victory over rival Riverside. The Lady Wolverines jumped out to an early 21-8 advantage after the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead as three players scored in double figures. Claire Noble (18 points) and Kayla Jones (13 points) each drained two 3-pointers to helped the offensive charge. ECABF Set To Host Winter Clinic

The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation (ECABF) will host a weekly winter clinic set to begin Sunday, January 14th. McDade, Fox Combine to Lead Panthers To 69-58 Victory Over Lions

The inside-outside duo of Darren McDade and Drake Fox combined to score 36 points as the Riverside Panthers defeated New Brighton 69-58 Wednesday night. Fox drained four 3-pointers on the evening while McDade poured in 12 first half points to lead the victors. EC Basketball Teams Net Two Christmas Tournament Championships

The Ellwood City boys and girls basketball team each netted a Christmas Tournament championship Thursday evening. First, the Wolverines boys team easily dismantled Maplewood 62-22 to capture the Mercer Christmas Tournament championship. Nine players, including all five starters, scored in the victory. Colten Crizer scored a game-high 13 points while Ryan Widmaier scored a career-high 12 points off the bench. Joseph Roth stuffed the stat sheet and finished with 12 points (two 3-pointers), 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 7 blocks.
