ECASD Board of Directors Hires Track Coaches

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Alan Marsh and Nathan Brown to serve as co-head varsity track coaches during its February 10 meeting. Historically, the track team had one head coach and four assistant coaches. Because of the hiring of co-head coaches, the team will have only three assistants this year, according to ECASD Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley. Wolverine Wrestling Wraps Up Regular Season, Senior Night

The Ellwood City Wrestling team wrapped up its regular season this week with two matches, including their senior night on Wednesday evening. The team was defeated by Sharon 45-30 at home Wednesday and also fell to Slippery Rock 34-30 on the road Thursday. The team will next look towards tournament On Wednesday, two seniors Jaden Stull (his first year wrestling) and Donavin Stiffler (his second year wrestling) were recognized prior to the match.  For Ellwood City, Ben Gallenz (126 lb) pinned Camden Reiser, 2:34, and Michael Swesey (172 lb) pinned Muawiyah Maani, 0:32 for victories.  Ellwood also earned three victories…

Lady Wolverines Defeat Rival Riverside On Senior Night

Five Ellwood City seniors were recognized prior to Thursday Night’s rivalry game versus Riverside. The Lady Wolverines proceeded to defeat the visiting Panthers 49-18. Three players paced Ellwood City in double figures led by sophomore Claire Noble and her game-high 16 points.  Seniors Kyla Servick (14 points) and Emily Sedgwick (10 points) helped the Wolverines to victory. Senior Gina Flumer chipped in with a fourth quarter layup. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

SIMPLE ASSAULT: Nicholas Kinnear, 35, of Ellwood City, is charged with Simple Assault and Harassment after an incident on January 31. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Spring Avenue for a domestic. Police were met outside by a female victim who related that Kinnear had became angry and accosted the victim resulting in marks and bruising. HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today joined his colleagues in a joint session of the General Assembly as Gov. Tom Wolf delivered his eighth and final state budget address. The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II recognized a local man for his volunteer work in our community for the past 50 years. The Club recognizes local citizens who perform volunteer work in the community and epitomize the Clubs moto: “Pro Bono Publico”-For the Good of the Public. Ellwood City remained unbeaten in section play, one night after clinching an outright section championship, with a 65-52 victory over Beaver Falls on Tuesday. Senior Steve Antuono led the charge with a game-high 24 points (10-12 FTs, two 3-pointers, six assists, two steals) while two fellow seniors, Alexander Roth (14 points, four rebounds, four assists) and Peyton O’Brien (13 points, two blocks), joined him in double figures.
