Ellwood City’s Unified Bocce team earned a third place finish at the PIAA Interscholastic Unified Bocce State Championships last week in Hershey, PA. The Wolverines captured bronze with a thrilling 6-4 win over Pennridge. “When football talks the game of inches, bocce is truly the game of inches,” says head coach John DiBuono. Grady Smith Earns The MVS Elks Scholarship

Grady Smith has been named a National Elks Scholar and a recipient of their Most Valuable Student Scholarship. The Elks National Foundation scholarship program recognizes students in several categories including community service, honors and awards, extracurricular involvement, employment and academics. Grady was selected from over 20,000 applicants nationwide as one of the top 2% students in the country to become a lifelong Elks Scholar. He received a $4,000 scholarship from the Elks National Foundation, Inc. to apply towards furthering his education. Ellwood City Softball Starts Season 2-0 With Two Impressive Victories

The Ellwood City Softball team started their 2023 campaign with two impressive wins this week over Steel Valley on Tuesday and Keystone Oaks on Wednesday. Both were five inning mercy rule victories. Route 422 Daylight Single-lane Restrictions Begin Next Week in Lawrence County

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing improvement work on the Route 65 bridge over Route 422 (US 422/Benjamin Franklin Highway) in Shenango Township, Lawrence County will begin Monday, March 27 weather permitting. Single-lane and shoulder restrictions will occur on Route 422 under the Route 65 bridge weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through late May. Crews will conduct bridge rehabilitation work. Both Ellwood City and Riverside softball teams will enter their 2023 regular season campaigns with sights set on returning to the WPIAL Playoffs, continuing streaks for both teams. Applications Available for Ellwood City Facade Improvement Project

During Monday’s Borough Council Meeting, Borough Manager Kevin Swogger announced projects around town that will work to spruce up the business fronts and well as the streets. He said the Ellwood City Façade Improvement Program is underway and two businesses have already submitted applications including Posies by Patti and Grand Paws Pet Salon. Applications are available on the Borough’s website at the top of the page.
