A school crossing guard continued to urge Ellwood City Borough Council to take action against speeding cars at the intersection of 4th and Crescent Avenues during Monday’s regular meeting. ECASD Board of Directors Approves Bids for North Side Primary Capital Improvements

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to award bids for improvement and renovation projects at North Side Primary and Lincoln High School during its regular monthly meeting. The board awarded the following bids for North Side Primary work: General Construction – Fred L. Ellwood City Borough Council Still Seeking Borough Manager Candidates

Ellwood City Borough Council announced the end of the Emergency Declaration enacted on January 26, 2026, by the Mayor of Ellwood City, Anthony Court, during Monday’s regular council meeting. Brad Ovial, president of council, spoke on behalf of Court stating that the emergency declaration has officially ended. Ovial also praised various public works and public safety officials who worked endlessly providing services to the public. ECASD Board of Directors Table Hiring of Head Football Coach for Special Meeting

Although the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors, according to the agenda posted on the district’s website, was set to vote to hire a new head football coach during Monday’s meeting, a coach was ultimately not hired. The 7 p.m. public meeting was delayed 50 minutes as the board held an executive session for interviews. Ellwood City Borough Council to Advertise for New Borough Manager

Ellwood City Borough Council voted during Tuesday evening’s regular meeting to advertise for employment of a new borough manager. The move comes after Council voted 4-3 on January 5, during a reorganizational meeting, to not renew the contract for Kevin Swogger. Councilwoman Jan Williams was joined by Councilmen Caleb Cragle, Brad Ovial, and Joseph Mancini in voting to not renew. Swogger joined the borough as manager in 2023. EC Borough Council Passes Budget; Recognizes Young Hero

Ellwood City Borough Council voted to adopt an ordinance to establish the real property tax rate at 11.75 mills for the year 2026 and also voted to pass a resolution adopting a 2026 budget. Councilman James Barry and Councilman James Johnson both voted “No” to the real property tax rate and the resolution to adopt the 2026 budget. Councilman George Celli voted “No” to adopt a 2026 budget.
