Kurt S. Pohto, 61, of Center Township, Butler County, passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 8, 2023 Born in Cleveland, OH on September 11, 1961, Kurt  was the son of Linda Simon Pohto of Ellwood City and the late Carl S. Pohto.  Kurt had worked as a pipefitter. Besides his mother, Kurt is survived by a sister, Jacqui Bowman of Ellport and two brothers, Christopher Pohto of Amherst, NY and Carl Pohto of Mogadore, OH. Raymond C. Dombeck, 89, of Ellwood City, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023 at Celebration Villa in Chippewa. Born in Ellwood City on August 21, 1933, Ray was the son of the late Conrad A. and Mildred V. Kline Dombeck. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lorena Lehman. She passed away on June 2, 2020. Ray had worked as the chief estimator at the Aetna Standard in Ellwood City and later retired from the same position at Herr-Voss in Callery. Bruce W. Patrick, 65, of Ellwood City, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at Butler Memorial Hospital. Born on April 6, 1958 in Rochester, Bruce was the son of the late George and Mary Ann Kessler Patrick.  He retired from Norfolk Southern in 2013 as an Electrician.  Bruce was a member of Divine Grace Parish and its Holy Name Society and the New Brighton Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and leatherworking. Joan Leo, 60, of Ellport, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 in her residence following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on November 18, 1962 in Mt. Lebanon, Joan was the daughter of the late Jim and Rosalie Vaglia Wold.  She retired from Andritz Herr-Voss Stamco as an accounting supervisor after 28 years.  Joan was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan.  She enjoyed camping, dancing and walking.  She absolutely loved spending time with her grandchildren. Susan Elizabeth Pratt, 66, passed away peacefully at UPMC Jameson Hospital on June 1, 2023, after a six-year battle with cancer. She was born on October 22, 1956 in Ellwood City to the late Dominick and Elizabeth Pratt.  Susan graduated from Lincoln Jr.-Sr. High School in Ellwood City in 1974. She continued her education at Beaver County Community College, graduating in 1980 with an associate degree in medical laboratory technology. Suzy went on to work at Jameson Memorial Hospital from 1980 to 2019, retiring early due to her ongoing battle with cancer. Everyone in the hospital knew “Laboratory Suzy” would…

Veronica A. Cook, 58, of Ellwood City passed away at UPMC Passavant on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Born in Uniontown, PA on September 26, 1964, Veronica was the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy Nalepka Lally.  She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Cook, whom she married on September 13, 2011.  Veronica was a LPN at Golden Hills and later Quality Life of New Castle for over 25 years.  Veronica enjoyed spending time with her husband at their camp in Titusville.  She was meticulous at keeping her yard looking good, but mostly she enjoyed the time she was…

Sarah “Sally” Elizabeth Straw, 93, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away at the River City Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Born in Eastvale, PA, Sally was the daughter of the late William and Stella Cochran Douds.  Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Straw, who passed away on September 25, 2006.  They were married on June 23, 1951.  Sally, along with her husband, owned and operated Straw’s Bakery on the North Side of Ellwood for over 20 years.  After her retirement in 1977, she worked the next 12 years for Bakery Supply Co. in Pittsburgh.  Sally was a…

Rodnie R. Tedrow, 74, of Wampum, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Edison Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. Born on November 14, 1948 in Waynesburg, PA, Rodnie was the son of the late Fred and Velma Harris Tedrow.  Rodnie served in the US Army during Vietnam and Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.  He retired from Vesuvius McDanel in Beaver Falls where he worked as a Master Mold Maker.  Rodnie enjoyed riding motorcycles and tinkering with cars, but most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his children, his grandchildren, and his dogs. Born in West Aliquippa on May 3, 1931, Betty was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Palazzi Lise. Betty married her beloved husband, George “Skip” Hulick on May 8, 1954 and they enjoyed fifty-eight years together until he preceded her in death in January of 2013.
