Library Activities For The Week Of May 27, 2019

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include MONDAY, MAY 27 The Ellwood City Area Public Library will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday May 28. Ellwood City Library’s 2019 Summer Programs

Ellwood City Library has a stellar variety of Summer Programs for 2019! Book Bunch starts in June for kids having completed third grade. Each child receives a free book each month that he or she attends, is treated to pizza for lunch, and fun activities based on the book. Parents need to sign up third graders to attend Book Bunch now. The first books have arrived at the library for pick up. Fourth and Fifth graders can attend Bookworms and receive all the same benefits. It’s a great way to improve reading skills this summer! A Universe Of Stories Comes To Franklin Township

This summer, the Chippewa Branch of the Beaver County Library System will be bringing a universe of stories during summer story times. Parents, bring your preschool age children to the Franklin Township Community Park on Walnut Street for stories, songs, and crafts. Storytimes will be held on Thursday in June, July, and August. The Thursdays in June fall on the 6th, 13th, and 20th, in July on the 11th and 18th, and it will conclude in August on the 1st, the 8th, and the 15th. Ellwood Wrestler Representing Team Pennsylvania

Lincoln High School wrestler Austin Walley recently finished third in both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman Pennsylvania/USA Wrestling State Championships held at Central Mountain High School in Lock Haven. His performance qualified him to compete at the US Marine Corps/USAW Junior National Championships for the third straight year.  The tournament will be held July 12-19 in Fargo, North Dekoda.  Walley will also represent Team Pennsylvania at the USA Wrestling Junior National Duals in Tulsa, Oklahoma June 18-22.

Ellwood City Felon Pleads Guilty to Distributing Fentanyl, Illegally Possessing Pistols and Ammunition

PITTSBURGH -A felon from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of violating federal firearms and narcotics laws, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced Friday. Derick Davare, 32, pleaded guilty to four counts before United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that from in and around 2015, and continuing to on or about October 22, 2018, Davare conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance. Lady Wolverines Stave Off Freeport, Advance In WPIAL Playoffs

The Lady Wolverines withstood two furious comeback attempts by Freeport, finally advancing with a wild 14-11 victory over Freeport on Thursday. Freeport rallied back from an 8-1 deficit by scoring five runs in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead, and later answered an Ellwood City three-run seventh to force extra innings. (Ellwood City, PA) Butler County Community College’s Class of 2019 was its largest of the century with 599 graduates – 14 more than in 2017, its previous top class since 2000. Ellwood City snagged a late lead by way of an unusual series of events and held on to defeat Deer Lakes 2-1 on Wednesday.
