Bernstine Announces Committee Passage of Bill to Prevent Violent Offenders from Early Release

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today commended the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin), for passing House Bill 1855 or Markie’s Law, which focuses on the parole process for violent offenders. LHS Graduate Botti Named PAC Rookie of the Week

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Westminster College freshman defensive back Luca Botti (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood City) was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Rookie of the Week. The 6′ 2″ 170-pound redshirt freshman had a team-high seven tackles (7 solo) and a pair of pass breakups for Westminster in its 28-25 win over Geneva Saturday. Earlier this week, local gym and fitness center It’s Time Fitness announced a new ‘Fit For Safety’ program for all first responders in the Ellwood City area. The 47th Annual Wampum Area Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, December 7th beginning at 1:00 p.m. Come out and enjoy a lineup featuring a steel line band, Toy Story characters, Muppets Christmas, Paw Patrol, superheroes, Rudolph, bands, dance groups, scout troops, floats, fire trucks, and horses! Route 288 Wampum Road Bridge Closure Announced

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of the Wampum Road (Route 288) Bridge in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, will occur this weekend, Friday night through Monday morning, November 8 through November 11 weather permitting. The Wampum Road Bridge will close to traffic from 7 p.m. Friday night continuously through 5 a.m. Monday morning to allow work to complete roadway tie-in for the new bridge. ELLWOOD CITY – It’s been six years since Richard Hogue was shot and killed, and his family continues to turn their pain into saving lives by hosting a blood drive in his memory. Christ Presbyterian Celebrating Its 40th Boar’s Head Festival

Christ Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City is celebrating its 40th year of the “Boar’s Head Festival”. Presented at least as early as 1346 in Oxford, England, the Boar’s Head, and yule log ceremony is probably the oldest continuous festival of the Christmas season. The one-hour presentation celebrates the birth of Christ and features music conducted by Dan Forsberg, and accompanied by the Ellwood City Civic Chorale and organist David DeCaria.
