Senators to Offer Supplemental Funding Measure for Agriculture Programs

HARRISBURG – Citing agriculture’s key role in Pennsylvania’s economy and the need to adequately prepare for a potential outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and other threats, Senator Elder Vogel (R-47) and his colleagues Ryan Aument (R-36), Gene Yaw (R-23) Dave Argall (R-29) and Lloyd Smucker (R-13) are preparing legislation to restore vital funding for agriculture-related items vetoed from the state budget by Governor Tom Wolf. Committee Approves Vogel Bill Reducing General Assembly Size

The Senate State Government Committee today (Jan. 20) approved legislation introduced by Senator Elder Vogel that would reduce the size of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Senate Bill 488, which would decrease the Senate from 50 to 45 Senatorial Districts and the House of Representatives from 203 to 153 districts, now goes to the full Senate for consideration. “This is a bill that I have been working to get passed since I was elected to the Senate. Veterans’ Specialist to Visit Gibbons’ Office Next Week

To assist veterans and their families, state Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, today announced he will host state Department of Labor and Industry veterans’ specialist Ryan Paglia in his Ellwood City office from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26. Gibbons said Paglia develops job and training opportunities for veterans, with special emphasis on veterans with service-connected disabilities. Paglia provides direct services to veterans, enabling them to be competitive in the labor market; he also promotes community and employer support for employment and training opportunities, including apprenticeship and on-the-job training. Rotary Club January Meeting Recap

The Rotary Club of Ellwood City met for their weekly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 7. The club is planning to sponsor a performance of the Duquesne University Tambouritzans. Gibbons Announces Extension of Persian Gulf Veterans Benefits

HARRISBURG, Jan. 12 – State Rep Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, announced the application deadline for the Persian Gulf Conflict Veterans Benefit Program has been extended to Aug. 31, 2018. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, since 2008, the state has compensated more than 11,500 veterans for their service in the Persian Gulf conflict. New Dimension Comics Hosts Walking Dead Creator and Artist Tony Moore

Pittsburgh– New Dimension Comics will be hosting a personal appearance by original creator and artist of “The Walking Dead” Tony Moore. The signing will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016 at our Pittsburgh Mills (Tarentum) location from 5 to 9 p.m. This tour is to highlight “The Walking Dead #150”. Borough Live Christmas Tree Disposal

Residents may drop off their live Christmas Trees at the Public Works Garage from now until Jan. 31. The garage is located on Glen Avenue and Sixth Street and trees may be dropped off at any time. All items must be removed from the tree and as a reminder, only live trees are eligible. In addition, picnic shelter reservations will begin on the fourth Monday in February (Feb. 22) for Borough residents and begin on the fourth Monday in March (Mar. 28) for non-borough residents.
