Wolves Club 2016 Scholarships

Through the years, the Ellwood City Wolves Club, established in 1948, has awarded well over $200,000 in scholarships to Lincoln and Riverside high school seniors. President Mike DeOtto said that “Our Ellwood City Wolves Club members are proud to continue their long history of presenting educational scholarships and grants to area high school seniors,” President Mike DeOtto said. Ellwood City Men’s Softball League Schedule

Five teams comprise the Ellwood City Men’s Softball League at Stiefel Park this summer. Games commenced Tuesday, May 17 and will continue through August. The five teams represented include Laser Security, Venezie’s Sporting Goods & Apparel, The Color Center, Marshall’s Tree Experts and Duncan’s Auto Service. Game formats are seven-inning contests with double-headers at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The league uses the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) rules with open rosters. Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of 5-30-2016

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: The library will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday. Wednesday, June 1, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. NEW CASTLE, May 27 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, will host a fourth town hall meeting to update residents on local community events and important state government-related issues. Pittsburgh Mills Sky Trail to Honor First Responders with Free Admission

FRAZER TWP – Pittsburgh Mills Sky Trail is recognizing first responders for their service in protecting life and property with free admission from June 5-30, 2016, Sundays through Fridays. A 10 percent discount for up to six additional guests with the first responder is also included. First responders include active duty fire fighters, rescue and emergency medical workers, TSA personnel, law enforcement officers and military men and women. Memorial Day Parade Schedule and Route

On Monday, May 30 Ellwood City will honor the men and women that died in military service for the United States of America with a community parade, ceremony and picnic. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Memorial Bridge with a brief tribute to those who died at sea. Dr. Robert Gregg, a World War II Army Veteran, will be the Parade Marshal. Gregg was a battalion master sergeant and combat engineer in Germany. The parade will conclude on Spring Avenue and be immediately followed by a ceremony at Legion Park. Notification of Tax Office Hours in June

Mary Ann Portugallo, Ellwood City tax collector, will open her office in the borough municipal building, 525 Lawrence Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays in June. In July, the office will return to regular hours – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  


Confronting the Heroin/Opioid Epidemic in Pennsylvania

What: The Center for Rural Pennsylvania will hold its 10th public hearing to solicit testimony on confronting the heroin and opioid epidemic in Pennsylvania and how this epidemic is affecting our most rural counties. The hearing will be held at the Fez in Aliquippa, Pa. and will be hosted by State Senator Elder Vogel and State Senator Camera Bartolotta.
