Gibbons Announces Penn State’s Food for Profit Workshop

HARRISBURG, March 31 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, has announced a one-day workshop titled Food for Profit that is designed to help people with business management concerns. Ellwood City Teacher Recognized for Excellence in Technology Education

Allentown, PA, March 30, 2016 –The Hybrid Learning Institute (HLI) today announced the winners of the “Rock Star” awards for the outstanding use of educational technology in Pennsylvania classrooms. The recognition was given to educators who best used new technology tools to improve student performance. Anita Hand, an elementary school teacher in Ellwood City Area School District, won “Best New Artist” for her pioneering work at North Side Primary. Senator Vogel to Collect Food for Local Salvation Army

State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. announced that he will be collecting non-perishable food for the New Castle Salvation Army at his New Castle District Office. The deadline to donate the food items is June 30. In addition to non-perishable foods, there is a special request for a few particular items: canned potatoes, canned sweet-potatoes, and boxed pasta meals (Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper, etc.). “Our latest food drive was a resounding success; let’s build upon it. Saxon Club Trip to Meadows Casino

The Ellwood City Saxon Club is taking a bus trip to the Meadows Casino on April 30. The club is leaving at 12:30 p.m. and returning at 8 p.m. The price is $30 per person, with $15 back in free play. Portersville Christian School Presents Back to the 80’s Musical

Portersville Christian School will present the musical “Back to the 80’s” on April 21-23 at 7 p.m. each day. The musical features 80’s hits such as “Kids in America,” “Walking on Sunshine,” “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” and many more. Two Ellwood Graduates Travel to Puerto Rico for Baseball

Two Lincoln High School graduates spent a week in Puerto Rico as part of the inaugural Clemente Cup baseball tournament. Matt Germanoski and Greg Lynn are 2012 Lincoln graduates who were on the 2012 Class AA WPIAL championship baseball team. Currently, they’re both seniors on the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg baseball team. The two went with their team and nine other college Division 3 baseball teams from the states. Through the program, they played games in Aguadilla, Anasco and Lajas. The two also met Luis Clemente, Roberto Clemente’s son. Ellwood City Drug Take Back Program

The Ellwood City Police Department is sponsoring a drug take back program on Saturday, April 30 at the Ellwood City Municipal Building. Residents may use the opportunity to turn in unused or expired medication for safe disposal. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
