Memorial Day Committee Extends Invitation to Participate

The Ellwood City Memorial Day Committee would like to extend an invitation to the entire community to participate in this year’s parade. Invitation to veterans of all ages and branches to walk or ride in the parade in honor of the men and women who died in military service for the United States of America.  Any veteran unable to walk the parade route will have the opportunity to ride on a float with other veterans. Portersville Christian School will hold an information Night/Open House on Tuesday, May 31 at 7 p.m. for families interested in enrolling students for the 2016-2017 school year. New Castle Playhouse Audition Notice for “Bedroom Farce”

The New Castle Playhouse will hold auditions for the play “Bedroom Farce” on June 27 and 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Annex Theatre. There are roles for four men and four women. Pennsylvania American Water Replacement Projects in North Side Area

Pennsylvania American Water will begin two replacement projects in the third week of May, weather permitting. The first project will replace 3000 feet of aging water main along College Street, Clover Avenue and First Avenue. Currently, the area is served by a four and six inch cast iron main that was installed during the late 1920’s and recently has been the source of several service disruptions. The company will be installing 12 inch ductile iron mains which will improve service reliability and increase flows for firefighting. Four Environmental Projects in 47th Senate District Awarded State Grants

  Four different environmental projects in the 47th Senate District will receive Growing Greener grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, according to Senator Elder Vogel Jr. The Lawrence County Conservation District will receive $810,283 for the Slippery Rock Watershed Agricultural Restoration project. Stream Restoration Inc., will receive $99,785 towards the Raccoon Creek Bank & Buffer Project. The Allegheny County Conservation District will receive $54,395 for remediation of the Raccoon Creek Streambank. Gibbons to Host Long-Term Care and Protection Seminar

BEAVER FALLS – State Rep Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, will be hosting a seminar to inform the public on how to protect people’s financial investments, long-term care and estate planning. Last Day for Ellwood Tax Discounts Extended to May 16

The last day for Ellwood City property taxpayers to receive discounts has been extended one day to May 16. Borough tax collector Mary Ann Portugallo’s office hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, May 16. The tax collector’s office is in the Ellwood City Municipal Building at 525 Lawrence Ave. Her office is normally closed on Mondays but will be open because the original discount deadline fell on a Sunday. The office will also be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday but tax discounts won’t be available. Fore more information, call 724-758-9673.
