Ellwood City Community Garden Seeks Volunteers

The Ellwood City Community Garden is a collaborative project between the Borough of Ellwood City, the local food bank, and many community volunteers and local businesses. The garden is composed of raised beds, each planted, tended to, and harvested by volunteers from our community. The harvest is donated to the local food bank in a effort to increase access to fresh, nutrient-dense produce for community members in need. Borough Of Ellwood City Announces Utility Account Budget Payment Plan

In a press release made available by the borough on Monday, the Ellwood City Borough Council has adopted a Utility Account Budget Plan. Ellwood City Borough Council adopted Resolution #2004-4 approving a budget payment plan for utility accounts under the following provisions: Customers may complete the application form provided by the Borough during the annual open enrollment period from the third Monday in March through the third Friday in April. Ellwood City Wolves Club Monthly Meeting Notes

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den 11 held their monthly meeting on Wednesday February 26, 2025 at the Connequenessing Country Club. President Mike DeOtto led the meeting and thanked the members for assisting at the recent Golf Bash held on February 16 at the Ellwood City Sons of Italy. A record number attended (450). All the money raised goes into their scholarship fund. Scholarship Chairman John DiBuono reported on the progress regarding this years Scholarship Awards. Bernstine Introduces Legislation to Protect Parental Rights in Medical Decisions for Minor Children

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) has introduced legislation aimed at protecting the rights of parents and guardians in the medical decision-making process for their minor children. The bill, known as Simon’s Law, would require health care professionals or facilities to notify parents before placing a do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order on any patient under the age of 18. Quilts and the Underground Railroad Discussed at ECAHS Feb. Meeting

More than 50 members and guests of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society were treated to a presentation of how quilts were used as guidance by the underground railroad. The presentation was given by the Reverend Jim Swanson to a crowd gathered at the meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society on Tuesday, February 11th. According to Swanson, quilts were utilized to send messages and provide directions to runaway slaves before and during the civil war. The messages were based on the designs of the quilt.
