Vogel Emissions Testing Amendment Approved

The Senate Environmental Resources & Energy Committee today approved an amendment that will initiate a legislative study by the Joint State Government Commission on the environmental impact of eliminating the vehicle emissions program in Beaver County, among other counties. Senate Resolution 168—a measure originally calling for a study of the environmental impact of eliminating the emissions program in Cambria County—was expanded to include Beaver County, among others, as a result of Senator Vogel’s amendment. “For years I have introduced legislation curtailing the ineffective and costly vehicle emissions program in Beaver County,” said Senator Vogel. “It is my hope that this…

Visitors to an Oct. 25 open house can learn about BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing’s innovative scheduling options that reflect students’ needs, about associate degree programs that instill the professional and technical skills necessary to start a career, and how 75 percent of BC3 students graduate debt-free. Animal Hospital Presents Check to Police Department

Ellwood City’s Mayor Anthony J. Court was thrilled to accept a check from Tammy of the Ellwood City Animal Hospital on behalf of the Ellwood City Police K9 Team, Ranger and Sgt. McBride. Just recently Dr. Cindy Mauro of the Ellwood Animal Hospital, Mayor Court and Sgt. McBride participated in a fundraiser so that the K9 Unit could purchase a GPS for K9 Ranger. Mayor Court and the Ellwood City Police Department/K9 Unit send a “Special Thank You” to Dr. Mauro, The Ellwood City Animal Hospital and to all those who participated in the excellent fundraiser.

Clubs, Others at BC3 Give $3,600 to Hurricane Victims

Students representing Butler County Community College clubs have donated to the American Red Cross $3,600, which a local board member says represents “a significant amount of money” to be used to help victims of recent hurricanes. BC3 nursing club members Mikayla Spreng, of Saxonburg, and Josh Cranmer, of Butler; and BC3 physical therapy assistant club members Jessica Palascak, of Cranberry Township, and Rachel Fisher, of Wolcott, N.Y., gave checks totaling $3,600 to Blessel on Oct. 9. “I am really impressed that the local community college folks have been able to come together to give us this,” said Blessel, a Butler…

The Ellwood City United Fund is holding a “Get Acquainted Mixer” from 5pm to 7pm at Nico Luciano’s Cafe located at 324 Wampum Avenue, Ellwood City. Derry Has Success in Run Game, Cruises Past Wolverines

The Wolverines have had issues with keeping players on the field throughout the year due to lingering injuries. The same occurred Friday night as three starters were injured during a conference game match-up against favorited Derry Trojans. Derry came into the evening with only loss to conference foe Elizabeth Forward. The Wolverines came into the game hoping to pick up their third win on the season in preparation of upcoming rival Riverside. Instructions for Participating in Halloween Parade

The annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade will march down Lawrence Avenue Saturday, October 28 at 3:30. The parade will start at the intersection of 4th Street and Lawrence Avenue and end at the intersection of 8th Street and Lawrence Avenue. Staging will take place in the Holy Redeemer School parking lot. Participants are encouraged to arrive before 2:45 and enter the lot at Crescent Avenue and 3rd Street. Parents may drop off their children on Crescent Avenue between 3rd Street and 4th Street. After the parade, participants can return to the lot via Crescent Avenue to disband. Anyone interested in…
