Slippery Rock University Receives Grant to Train Veterans to be Teachers, Bernstine Says

State Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced that Slippery Rock University, along with West Chester University in southeastern part of the state, will receive more than $272,000 in funding under the federal Troops to Teachers grant program. “I believe the extensive training, vast experience and patriotism of our nation’s veterans make them excellent candidates to lead our classrooms,” Bernstine said. “Programs like Troops to Teachers help us give back in a small way to our veterans while putting some of our most upstanding citizens before our future generations.” The Troops to Teachers grant program, managed by the Defense Activity for Nontraditional…

Commissioners Honor BC3, Present Proclamation to Native Ellwood City Graduate

Butler, PA- Butler County Commissioners Leslie Osche, Kimberly Geyer and Kevin Boozel on Wednesday recognized Butler County Community College’s back-to-back rankings as the No. 1 community college in Pennsylvania by presenting a proclamation to BC3 President Dr. Nick Neupauer during the board’s public meeting. Neupauer, formerly of Ellwood City, is a 1985 graduate of Lincoln High School. The 8.5-inch by 14-inch tan proclamation, enclosed in a navy blue folder stamped with the Commissioners’ Office, Butler County, PA crest, also lauded BC3 for 2017 accomplishments prior to the college being selected No. 1 again in October by Schools.com. New Plans for YDC Property Take Shape, Bernstine Says

Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today announced a new bid of sale has been accepted by the state Department of General Services for the Youth Development Center (YDC) property in Lawrence County. The $2 million bid was placed by Lawrence County Community Action Partnership (LCCAP), which plans to develop the property to accommodate educational, health care and short-term housing facilities, among other plans. Vote Connoquenessing for River of the Year

Connoquenessing Creek was just nominated for Pennsylvania’s River of the Year!  In 3 days, the “Connie” went from last place to 1st place! It was 1 of 5 nominations picked out of hundreds of submissions. As we all know, over time this local waterway had been neglected and abused leading to its rating as the 2nd most polluted waterway in America in 2000. Since then through Allegheny Aquatic Alliance and other organizations’ efforts, significant positive changes have been made to this creek and have resulted in the restoration of it. Scholarship Available to Students Pursuing Education in Construction or Trades

Monaca, PA – The CCBC Foundation recently announced the establishment of the William R. Minton Scholarship Fund. A generous gift from William Minton’s surviving wife, Abigail Minton and her family, the scholarship celebrates the legacy of Mr. Minton. BC3’s “forward-thinking” library earns spot in national magazine

(Butler, PA) The nation’s oldest magazine devoted to libraries has recognized the architecture of Butler County Community College’s new Heaton Family Learning Commons, a $6.4 million state-of-the-art facility dedicated in August 2016 and one whose visual attraction defies the words within its 40,000 volumes, according to Martin Miller, BC3’s interim dean of library services. The Heaton Family Learning Commons, on BC3’s main campus in Butler Township, is among seven academic renovations and the most expensive listed in the Nov. 15 issue of Library Journal, a New York City magazine founded in 1876, according to managing editor Bette-Lee Fox. Wampum Area Christmas Parade Celebrates Dr. Seuss Publications

Wampum, PA – Each year, the Wampum Area Christmas Parade Committee prepares floats that do not compete in the popular float contest. They like to add to parade line-up each to assure new and fresh content to complement the familiar traditions.
