Free Apprenticeship Readiness Program for Students Set for February

Butler, PA- Butler County Community College will offer a free month-long apprenticeship readiness program employing a nationally recognized curriculum designed to prepare 16 participants for applications with Western Pennsylvania building and construction trade unions, according to Kathleen Strobel, BC3’s coordinator of business training. BC3’s apprenticeship readiness program, like that offered by three other Western Pennsylvania community colleges through May, is intended to assist those interested in the trades to successfully apply to and be accepted into tuition-free apprenticeship training programs with 16 unions and their partner contractors, Strobel said. Ellwood City Wolverines Defeat Steel Valley

Munhall, PA– Lincoln won 55-42 against Steel Valley on Wednesday with the help of Anthony Roth, who scored 25 points, including 17 points in a decisive 3rd quarter for the Wolverines. Ellwood City Wolverines clinched their lead in the third quarter on a free throw from Roth. Lincoln came back with a vengeance in the final two quarters, after being behind early in the game, trailing 23-19 at the half. Class of 1954 Christmas Dinner Meeting Recap

Pudue LaCava hosted the annual Christmas Dinner for the 1954 Lincoln High School, “81 Still Having Fun” committee on Thursday, November 30 at 2p.m. at her Mt. Vernon Drive Home. The full committee in attendance enjoyed a bountiful menu of ravioli, meatballs, sausage, ham, salads, vegetable trays and many desserts, provided by members and served by LaCava and Ilene Gardner. Hockey Ticket Raffle Winner Announced

Mary Maceyko is the winner of the Ellwood City United Fund Hockey Ticket Raffle. The winning number was Pennsylvania Lottery Pick Two # 92, drawn the evening of December 18, 2018. The winner received 4 Pen Hockey tickets($500 value) for the February 27 game, plus $200 spending cash. Ellwood City Wolverines Notch A Win Against Freedom

The Wolverines emerged victorious 78-62 against Freedom on Tuesday on the strength of Anthony Roth, who scored 31 points. Ellwood City had an early scoring surge, running out to an early double digit lead and claiming a 41-32 lead at the half. Lincoln solidified their lead in the final quarter, scoring 24 points. Roth led the charge for the Wolverine offense, scoring 31 points (10-17 shooting, one 3-pointers), with 11 points during the fourth period. Ellwood City Wolverines Fall Short Against Shenango in Saturday’s Game

New Castle, PA – In spite of a solid performance from Anthony Roth with 17 points, Lincoln fell to Shenango 83-53. Roth led the charge for Ellwood City Wolverines‘s offense, scoring 17 points, with seven points during the third period. He also contributed five rebounds and one steal. Two other players also racked up double digit scores for Lincoln. Sean Busby put up 13 points. Broc Boariu hit two three-pointers and scored 10 points total. Ellwood City used double-double efforts from Broc Boariu and Sean Busby to emerged victorious 65-56 against Springdale Wednesday night at Lincoln High School. House Approves Bernstine Bill to Help Seniors Stay in Their Homes

HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives Monday unanimously approved legislation, authored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence), which would make it easier for seniors to maintain their independence and receive care in their homes. “A disparity in Pennsylvania law is limiting access to in-home care and actually forcing some seniors into nursing homes when home care would have been more appropriate, preferred and less expensive,” Bernstine said. Currently, when an individual applies for Medicaid, he or she can be “presumed eligible” for nursing home services and receive those services immediately while their Medicaid application is being fully reviewed.
