Born February 26, 1950 in Harlan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Murphy and Grace Skidmore Gross. He was married to Diana Pumphrey Gross. She was born on June 29, 1931 in New Bethlehem, PA, the daughter of the late Myron and Ethel Phoebe (Wohlbaugh) Crawford. She married the love of her life, Harry B. Kunselman on September 30, 1950.
