Judith (Hooker) Lemsky, 79

Judith (Hooker) Lemsky of Birmingham, Alabama passed away Wednesday, January 18th 2023. The daughter of the late Harold W. Hooker and Mildred (Lewis) Hooker, Judie was born October 4th 1943 and raised in Ellwood City. A 1961 graduate of Lincoln High School, she moved to Birmingham in 1970. Living and working there she met her husband, they were married on September 2, 1972. Judie worked in commercial real estate development for many years before retiring in 2017. An avid dog lover, she was a volunteer for English Springer Rescue America (ESRA). She is survived by her husband Lee Andrew (Drew)…

The Ellwood City girls basketball team was busy this week with three games on the schedule. The Lady Wolverines collected its lone win of the week with a non-section road victory Wednesday night over New Castle. After trailing by nine entering the final quarter, Ellwood City rallied for a thrilling 48-47 victory. Claire Noble finished with a double-double (15 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals) to lead a well rounded offensive attack for Ellwood City. Ellwood City Bocce Making Strides, Eyeing Playoffs

The Ellwood City Bocce team is making strides according to head coach John Dibuono. The team split decisions against Butler and Seneca Valley this past week. On January 10th the Ellwood City bocce team took on Butler. Butler prevailed in the matchup three games to one. The team faced Seneca Valley on Wednesday January 18th. ATTEMPTED BURGLARY: On January 15th, an unknown actor attempted to make entry into a garage located on Ellwood Road, Slippery Rock Township. The unknown actor damaged a screen in the side window when attempting to make entry into the garage. The actor was unsuccessful and then left the scene on foot. Footprints were observed in the snow approaching the property from the north and were observed approaching each exterior window of the garage i an attempt to make entry. Ellwood City Native Debra Todd To Be Formally Installed As Chief Justice on Friday

Ellwood City native and Pennsylvania state Supreme Court Justice Debra Todd will be formally installed as chief justice in a ceremony set for Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Omni William Penn hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. Todd will become the first female chief justice in the 300-year history of Pennsylvania high court. The 1975 Lincoln High School graduate became the chief justice on October 1st, following the September 30th death of former Chief Justice David Max Baer at 74. Ellwood City Winter Wine & Brew Fest To Be Held Next Weekend

Tickets are still available for the upcoming Ellwood City Winter Wine and Brew Fest. The annual event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at the Sons of Italy at 808 Lawrence Ave. The event is a crowd favorite and proceeds benefit Ellwood City Revitalization. After trailing by as many as 20 points late in the third quarter, the visiting Riverside Panthers rallied to force overtime and pull away for a thrilling 50-47 victory over Ellwood City Tuesday night. Sophomore Drake Fox’s 3-pointers with under 15 seconds in regulation knotted the game. Ellwood City had led 35-15 with two and half minutes remining in the third quarter after holding a comfortable 22-12 advantage after a relatively low scoring first half. Two Junior High Wrestlers Place At Indiana Tournament

Ellwood City junior high wrestlers Brayden McClure (87-pound class) and Cheyenne Berglund (94-pound class) each placed fourth for the Wolverines in a 23-team wrestling tournament held last weekend. The team competed in the Indiana (PA) Eagles/Good & Associates Tournament on Saturday, January 14th. McClure and Berglund each reached the 3rd place match in their respective weight class in the tournament. McClure finished with a 4-2 record while Berglund finished with a 2-2 record.
