POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

PUBLIC INTOXICATION: Blake Zeigler, 21, of Ellwood City is charged with public intoxication after an incident on September 25th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 12:46p.m., police were dispatched to 7-11 and advised that a male was loitering outside asking customers to purchase him tobacco in exchange for cocaine. Officers were aware of this incident. Police then located Zeigler, who was riding a bike, and advised him of the complaint to which Zeigler denied. Police then noticed a smell of alcohol emitting from Zeigler and asked him step off the bike. Zeigler refused and reached for his pocket….

Panthers Open Up WPIAL Playoffs Against OLSH On Friday

The Riverside Panthers will square up and face Our Lady of Sacred Heart on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Moon High School in the opening round of the WPIAL Class 2A Playoffs. Paving Set To Begin On Lawrence Avenue

As part of the ongoing PennDOT SR351 project, construction crews will start base repairs on Lawrence Avenue beginning Wednesday night and continue repairs through Friday night. According to borough manager Kevin Swogger, road work will be done between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Lawrence Avenue is due to expect paving this week. Next week the milling and paving will be starting on 5th Street for two night and then finishing up the Crescent Avenue and 4th Street section. The annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade took place Saturday afternoon along Lawrence Avenue in downtown Ellwood City. Thousands flocked to the sidewalks to watch and collect candy tossed from the many floats and participants in the parade. The Borough of Ellwood City modified its Trick or Treat schedule for this year, announcing it would take place Saturday evening after the parade. DON’T FORGET! PHOTOS: Wolverines Wrap Up Unbeaten Regular Season With Senior Night Victory Over Beaver Falls

Ellwood City has earned is first unbeaten regular season in 80 years after a convincing 52-0 blowout of Beaver Falls Friday night. The shutout performance was part of the senior night where sixteen Wolverine players were recognized before the game. One the game started, Ellwood City made quick work of the visiting Tigers as quarterback Chris Smiley tossed three first half touchdowns and the Wolverines raced out a 39-0 halftime advantage. Four Local XC Runners Qualify For PIAA State Championships

Four local cross country runners qualified for PIAA State Championships with their individual performances Thursday in the WPIAL Championships held at White Oak Park in McKeesport. Drew Steffler (9th, 16:20.70), Bradley Custer (13th, 16:34.90), and Lucas Bleakney (23rd, 16:50.60) helped pace the Ellwood City Wolverines team that finish 7th overall. All three runners will advance to Hershey, PA for the PIAA Championships to be held Friday, November 1st. Riverside Panther runner Devin Montileone (22nd, 16:49) also qualified for the PIAA Championships. Rounding out the runners contributing for Ellwood City with Top-100 finishes include Dante Venezie (93rd) and Nicklas Young (98th)….

Bernstine Announces Funding for Improvement Project in Wampum Borough

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) today announced the award of a $400,000 state grant to Wampum Borough, Lawrence County, aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs within the community. Koppel Borough Celebrating Grand Opening Of New Park

Koppel Borough will be celebrating the grand opening of the Koppel Playground on Saturday, October 26th with an official ribbon cutting. “This playground will be the first playground that Koppel has had in a number of years,” said Koppel Mayor Athena Pangikas-Miller. Pangikas-Miller said there used to be one where the old Koppel school was, but once the school was sold it was gone. “It’s an exciting advancement that Koppel is going to get to have this.
