Wurtemburg-Perry VFD Instituting Warming Center Ahead Of Colder Temperatures

Due to the dangerously low temperatures expected in the forecast next week, Wurtemburg-Perry VFD will be instituting the partial activation of a warming center at its 425 Portersville Road location. A partial activation means that while the warming center will not be continuously staffed, if any area residents need to utilize this resource, there will be a phone number posted on the door to call, and members of the department will respond and open the facility for use. Christmas Tree Disposal Still Available

Taking down the Christmas tree is only one task after the holiday season. For families with real trees, figuring out what to do with them may be a whole other task. According to information made available by the Borough of Ellwood City, residents may drop off live Christmas trees (decorations removed) at Stiefel Park now through January 31, 2025. Treecycling is a process that grinds old, unwanted live trees into other useful materials — mainly mulch. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

SIMPLE ASSAULT: Michael Fabich, 57, of Wampum is charged with Simple Assault after an incident occurring on January 2nd. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 8:56 p.m., police were dispatched to the Fabich residence on Eliza Street and when they made contact with the victim, Fabich’s wife, she explained that Michael Fabich was woken up by his father and Michael got angry taking it out on her. ECASD To Conduct Emergency Drill Training On Monday

The Ellwood City Area School District will conduct emergency drill training on Monday, January 20th, at Hartman Elementary School. Please note that there will be no classes for Ellwood students on this day, as it is an Act 80 day dedicated to providing security training for all district personnel. Upcoming BC3 Clinics To Help Girls Gain Volleyball Skills

Girls as young as fifth-graders can develop skills in volleyball by attending Butler County Community College clinics directed by a BC3 head coach whose players have won 475 matches and earned 14 All-American awards. BC3’s winter skills clinic Jan. 25 will be followed by one-day spring skills clinics that will also be held on Saturdays in February, March and April. Brown Takes Oath of Office for Second Term in PA House

Balanced Scoring Attacks From Both Teams Lead Wolverines To Sweep of Tigers

Seven Wolverines scored in double figures across the Ellwood City boys and girls basketball teams as the two teams swept a double-header at Beaver Falls Friday night. The Lady Wolverines opened up action Friday night, earning a 53-51 victory behind its balanced offensive attack. Elise Sturgeon (16 points) was among the four Wolverines in double figures.
