James Szymoniak, Jr., 64, of Prospect, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023. Born May 13, 1959 in Sewickley, Allegheny County; he was the son of Dianne Lee Prasek Szymoniak Opsatnik and the late James Szymoniak, Sr. Jim was a 1977 graduate of Ambridge Area High School. After graduation he joined the US Air Force, and then proudly served from 1979 to 1989. He retired in 2020 from PepsiCo, where he worked his own route driving, selling, and delivering to his customers. He was a faithful member of The Presbyterian Church of Prospect. First Year Coach Looks Forward To Leading Riverside Co-Ed Swimming

The Riverside boys swimming team enters the 2023-24 season as a five-time undefeated section champions, and this year will look to add another under the direction of new head coach Alaina Marshall. Marshall replaces Gwen Nulph who accepted a coach position earlier this year as Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach at Grove City College. BC3’s College Within the High School Program Sets 3 Records

A 26-year-old Butler County Community College program that offers qualified high school sophomores through seniors the opportunity to earn reduced-cost, transferrable college credits has set records this fall in enrollment, in seats occupied and in credits pursued. Panthers Split Tip-Off Tournament, Turn Focus To Regular Season

The Riverside Panthers boys basketball regular season got under way this past week as the team traveled to participate in two, separate tip-off tournaments. The team settled with a split, defeating Wilmington on Friday before falling to Mercer on Saturday. On Friday, Drake Fox erupted for 20 points to lead the Panthers to its 49-26 victory. The junior connected on four 3-pointers. Riverside held a sizeable 27-11 halftime advantage on its way to the tournament victory. ALERT: Borough Adds New Stop Signs

Please be advised, there are several new stop signs placed throughout the Borough. According to information made available on the Borough website, there are three locations within the borough that have had the addition(s) of new stop signs.  A motion to adopt an ordinance establishing the stop intersections passed at the November Borough Council Meeting by a 4-3 vote. Ellwood City Wrestling Eyes Continued Growth, Playoffs

The Ellwood City Wrestling team under the direction of coach John Fleming is eyeing a playoff berth this season. Along with continued growth within the program, Fleming points out the Wolverines team will grow in numbers as well and have its biggest squad under his watch with a handful of football players joining the team for the 2023-24 campaign. Ellwood City Area School District Seeking To Fill School Board Vacancy

According to a press release made available by the district this week, the Board of School Directors for the Ellwood City Area School District is seeking letters of interest and resumes to fill a vacancy for a two-year term on the School Board. The position became available upon the untimely passing of Mr. Gary Rozanski who had just recently been reelected. Mr. Rozanski served the district honorably for fourteen years holding positions of leadership several times.
