Photos: Lincoln High School Class of 2016 Commencement

Lincoln High School awarded 117 diplomas to the Class of 2016 during graduation ceremonies yesterday in the high school auditorium. The class valedictorians, Nikol Damato and Paige Mason, gave speeches, along with student council president Carter MacMurdo and school board president Renee Pitrelli. MacMurdo, a high honor graduate, is attending the u.S. Naval Academy, which requires a rigorous application process including a nomination from a U.S. Congress member, U.S. Senator, the president or vice president. Police: Ellwood Sexual Offender Fails to Register

Failure to Register as a Sexual Offender An Ellwood City man was charged with failing to register as a sexual offender. According to the criminal complaint, Michael Paul Henry, 35, has not checked in with the state police Megan’s Law Registration Unit since March 10, 2016 and is required to do so once a month. Investigating officers checked Henry’s residence at 224 Lawrence Ave. and saw Henry through a window, but  the offender did not answer the door. WPIAL Softball Game Postponed

The Ellwood City-South Park WPIAL playoff softball game, originally scheduled for today at 11 a.m., has been postponed to tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. The game will still be held at the California University of Pennsylvania in California, Pa. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.


Riverside Wins WPIAL Title

Senior Braden Bentel hit the WPIAL-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Riverside clinched the WPIAL title from Neshannock in a 1-0 game. Riverside and Neshannock stood toe-to-toe for an extended nine-inning game as pitchers Michael Boswell and Frank Fraschetti dueled. In the bottom of the ninth, senior Kolby Wolf got on base on a throwing error. Wolf advanced to second on a sacrificial bunt by sophomore Austin Dambach. Photos: Memorial Day Parade

The Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade was held yesterday, honoring the men and women that died in military service for the United States of America. The parade started at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Memorial Bridge and concluded on Spring Avenue. For the first time this year, there was a picnic at Circle Playground following the parade.


Bell Memorial Church Crossing Guard Appreciation Brunch

The Ellwood City Area Crossing Guards were honored on Thursday, May 26 with an Appreciation Brunch by the Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church. This was an opportunity to honor and say “thank you” for keeping our children safe through out the school year. The event was coordinated by Mary Ann Gearhart with the help of Janie Linville and Diane Neyman. The Rev. Ray Medina, pastor of Bell Memorial, shared prayer.
