Nardone Hurls Perfect Game; EC 12U Headed to Lawrence County Championship Game

After just missing perfection in her previous playoff outing, Angie Nardone tossed a perfect game Monday night as the EC 12u softball team blanked Laurel 12-0. Nardone retired all nine batters she faced in the mercy rule shortened three inning contest. First baseman Jaelynn Timmerman preserved the pitching gem as she made a tremendous over the shoulder catch on a ball headed to right field. Little Miss Firecracker Pageant to Kick-Off 2016 Festival!

The third annual Little Miss Firecracker Pageant will kick off this year’s Ellwood City Community Day at the Ellwood City Festival. 15 girls between the ages of four and seven will vie for the title on Friday, July 1 at 11:15 a.m. on Folino Stage. Nardone Tosses No Hitter, EC 12u Dominates Marion in First Playoff Game

Angie Nardone was a hit batter away from a perfect game, and the offense pounded out seven hits, as the 12u ladies defeated Marion 10-0 Tuesday night at Stiefel Park. The game was halted after 4 innings due to the mercy rule. The lanky right hander fanned 8 batters and threw 30 of her 41 pitches for strikes. Police: DUI Motor-Vehicle Assault and Man Attempts to Flee Police

DUI Motor Vehicle Assault A Beaver Falls man driving a motorcycle was seriously injured by a drunk driver in an incident on May 28. The victim, Michael D. Stevenson, was thrown 25 feet from his vehicle and transported to the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. He has since been released. According to criminal complaint filed on June 16, on May 28 at approximately 9:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Line Avenue and Mt. Mayor Swears in Newest Full-Time Police Officer

On Thursday, June 16, 2016 Mayor Anthony J. Court performed the swearing in ceremony of Ellwood City’s most recently hired full-time police officer, Patrolman Richard Kruger. Patrolman Kruger’s transition into a full-time police officer at the Ellwood City Police Department should be minimal considering his knowledge of the policies and procedures of the department, along with his good working relationship with the other officers, as he has worked part-time at the ECPD for the past year and a half. Many congratulations were extended to Patrolman Kruger as it is believed that he will be an asset to the Department.

Police: Two DUIs

DUI According to the criminal complaint, on June 4, an officer was dispatched to the Shelby Bar on 26 Fountain Ave. in response to a report of a driver passed out at the wheel. The officer arrived on the scene and made contact with the defendant, Douglas Holt Conner, 53, of Ellwood City. Connor was visibly intoxicated and after failing field sobriety tests, was taken to the Ellwood City Hospital. He was charged with two count of DUI.
