Police: Man Rescued from Freezing Water After Fleeing Police

Joseph Boots, 41, of Hillside Ave., in Wayne Township was rescued from frigid waters early Friday morning after fleeing from police. Boots, who already had an outstanding warrant issued in Lawrence County, fled from officers after a domestic dispute which occurred between him and a female who officers said was unrecognizable due to the severe swelling in her face. Officers noticed a suspicious individual running into the woods along the Connoquenessing Creek, and a bystander identified Boots as the fleeing man. PHOTOS: Balanced Panthers Attack Leads To Rivalry Victory

The Riverside Panthers used a balance scoring attack Friday night in their 66-51 rivalry victory over Ellwood City. Riverside was led by three players in double digits including Justin Baust who finished with a game-high 15 points.  Baust was joined in double figures by Gunnar Boehm (14 points) and Jesse Fornataro (11 points). Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of January 9, 2016

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Wednesday, January 11, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. Notice of Tax Office Hours

As of Jan. 16, 2017, the tax office located in the municipal building will only be open one day a week. They request you call ahead to see when they are there, 724-758-9673. Regular hours of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9a.m.-3p.m. will resume March 1, 2017.

Valley Waste has reported that the Recycling pick up for Wednesday, January 04, 2017 will be picked up on Thursday along with Thursdays regular recycling pick up. They had two(2) employees call off today due to illness.

Police Reports: New Years Public Drunkenness

New Years Public Drunkenness According to the police report, Ellwood officers were requested by the Wampum Police to assist with a publicly drunk female on Jan. 1, 2017. By the time the officers had arrived the Wampum Police had Jody Vankirk, 41, of New Castle, who was inappropriately dressed, detained. Vankirk was being “extremely out of control and intoxicated” while at the station. After she was released officers were called again in regards to the woman damaging items at a friends house and throwing things into the street.
