Two Charged with Marijuana Possession Joseph Edward Haybarger, 20, of Ellwood City, and Anthony Booker, 18, of New Castle, were both charged after an incident that occurred on Jan. 17. According to the criminal complaint, an officer was traveling behind a vehicle operated by Haybarger when the officer noticed the passenger side window was down and the smell of marijuana was emitting from the car. The officer stopped the vehicle and as Haybarger opened his driver side window the smell of suspected marijuana was again emanating from the vehicle. Mohawk School District Closed After Testing Positive for E. Coli in Water

According to a news source, all Mohawk district schools are closed today after receiving positive results of the potentially deadly E. Coli bacteria contaminating the water at the districts high school location. The districts elementary school is provided water from a different system and their water remains uncontaminated, however the school is still closed. After the heavy rain we have received in the area over the past few days, it’s not surprising that some water sources have become contaminated, many times due to overflowing sewers. POLICE: Two Charged in Christmas Burglary Attempt

According to the criminal complaint, two males will be facing burglary charges after an incident that occurred on Christmas Day at approximately 11:45p.m. at a residence on Spring Avenue. Officers were advised by the reporting party that two males had kicked in the rear door of the house and left the scene in a green Mitsubishi Eclipse. Andrew Stiles, Jr., 81

Mr. Andrew Stiles, Jr., 81, of Ellwood City passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the Ellwood City Hospital. Mr. Stiles was born on August 19, 1935 in Coalport, Pa to the late Andrew and Vanda Gmerek Stiles, Jr. Andy had served with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960, and was reactivated for 4 months during the Berlin Crisis. He worked at the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Mill in Beaver Falls from 1955 until his retirement in 1986 as a torch operator. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and golfing. Mr. Fred M. Smith, 74, of Ellwood City passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017 in his residence. Mr. Smith was born on September 7, 1942 in New Castle to the late Elizabeth Feinstein Slater. He is a member of the Neshannock High School class of 1961. Fred enlisted with the U.S. Navy on March 28, 1962 and served on the USS Page County as a diesel mechanic until his discharge on June 27, 1966. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Fred had worked at Rockwell in New Castle from 1973 until the plant closed in 1991. He…
