Hilda Huseonica, 99

Mrs. Hilda Huseonica, 99, formerly of Ellport passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 in the Grove in Harmony. Mrs. Huseonica was born on July 29, 1917 in Arden, Pa to the late Daniel and Lidia Hobart Pocza. She was a member of the Ellport Presbyterian Church, the Hungarian Women’s Club, and the Wurtemburg-Perry Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, and flower gardening. Wolverines Grab Lead in Seventh Inning for Victory Over Laurel

Ellwood City Wolverines took the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Laurel on Friday. The game was tied at three with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the seventh when Mitch Fraser singled off of Will Shaffer, driving in the go-ahead run to finally overtake a Laurel team that took an early lead in the first inning. Noah Rinker earned the win for Ellwood City Wolverines. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Ellwood City Track Teams Fall To Beaver

The Ellwood City boys and girls track teams were defeated by Beaver Area Friday afternoon.  For the girls, a strong showing in the 100m was put together by the trio of Avory Elchison, Mia DeCaria, and Alena Battaglia who swept the event for the Wolverines.  DeCaria also took first place in the high jump and long jump to spur the Wolverines. Wolverines Boys Tennis Falls To Beaver Area

Ellwood City boys tennis team fell to Beaver Area Thursday in high school tennis action at the Ewing Park Tennis Court. For the Wolverines, Trey Houk was able to collect a singles victory in straight sets over Bobcat Ross Huchko while the doubles team of Keegan Reisinger and Alex Vardzel was able to collect a first set victory in doubles action before falling in three sets. 12th Annual International Showcase Enjoyed at Riverside High School

On Tuesday, March 21, over 100 tenth grade World Cultures students with the support of 10 International Club students presented the Twelfth Annual International Showcase of Countries at Riverside High School. Following months of preparation, displays that showcased 33 nations of the world were opened to students in the Riverside district from grade K through 8. 30 Riverside classes with nearly 700 students toured the Showcase this year. In addition, a group of students from Ambridge attended the Showcase for the first time. Nine exchange students currently living in Pennsylvania were participants. Man Flees Police on Foot Through Traffic

Thomas James Myers, 39, of New Castle, will be facing a felony charge of delivery or possession with intent to deliver drug and two misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and prohibited acts, and Troy Lee Gompf, 51, of Ellwood City, will be facing two felony charges of hindering apprehension or prosecution, proceeding an incident that happened on February 24. Lawrence Lance, 88

Mr. Lawrence Lance, 88, of North Sewickley Twp. passed away on Monday, March 21, 2017 in the Rochester Manor. Mr. Lance was born on January 10, 1929 in Ellwood City to the late Joseph and Ida Cagni Lance. He had graduated from Lincoln High School and watch makers school in Pittsburgh. Larry enlisted with the U.S. Army on September 11, 1946 and served with the Company 1 34th Infantry until his discharge on December 18, 1947 with the rank of Private First Class. March Regular Meeting Brief

All items discussed at the March agenda meeting were passed at the regular meeting Monday night. Two Part-Time Policemen Hired by Borough

During yesterdays council meeting, council voted to pass an exception: at the Regular Meeting of Council held 9/19/16, Council voted to discontinue the shooting range at Stiefel Park, effective 12/31/16, to be in compliance with the Master Park Plan. However, a motion would be in order to make a one-time exception to use the shooting range in Stiefel Park to qualify one of the newly hired part-time officers (Gary Greene, Jr.).
