#11 Seed Riverside Turns The Table, Stuns Laurel In WPIAL Quarterfinals

Panther Freshman right fielder Ava Cummings collected three hits in four at bats as the #11 seeded Riverside Lady Panthers defeated #3 seed Laurel Varsity Spartans 11-1 on Monday in the WPIAL Class 2A Quarterfinals. The upset victory avenged a pair of lopsided losses to the Spartans during the regular season. Borough To Begin Enforcement Of High Grass & Weeds

Spring is here and June is just two weeks away. Grass is growing and many homeowners are attending to their property. April started yard waste pick-ups for borough residents. According to information made available by the Borough Code Enforcement Office, and due to the large amount of rain we have received, the borough has extended a grace period to the enforcement of HIGH GRASS and WEEDS. The 3-seeded Ellwood City Lady Wolverines will open up their WPIAL Class 3A Playoff run with their quarterfinal contest against #6 seed McGuffey on Monday, May 19th. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Elementary Students Host Pizza Day

120 Sixth-grade students participated in a pizza project that culminated last week as they ventured to local pizzerias Vinny’s Restaurant and Johnny’s Pizza Shop. Elementary Computer Teacher Matt Skoczylas and School Counselor Christina Mendillo organized the project. Skoczylas had completed a pizza project unit with Ellwood City 6th graders before but, according to Mendillo, wanted to expand the project and turn it into an actual simulation. Frank D’Amico, 94, of Beaver, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Born April 5, 1931 in Ellwood City, he was a son of the late Nick and Frances D’Amico. A proud veteran of the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War, Frank went on to have a long career as a real estate associate broker. He was a former member of Beaver County Realtors Association and the Jolly Boy Investment Club. Ellwood Historical Society Awards Scholarships

Four local high school seniors were awarded scholarships by the Ellwood City Area Historical Society on Monday night. DeLanna Fox (Riverside H.S.), Kailyn Hamilton (Lincoln H.S.), Hannah Hyde (Commonwealth Charter Academy), and Sara Schwarz (Lincoln H.S.) each received $1,500 toward their continuing education. Fox and Schwarz won Marlene Painter Scholarships with essays on “Why I Want to be a Teacher.” Hamilton and Hyde were winners of the Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarship.
