Mary Jean Schlemmer, 95

Mary Jean Schlemmer, 95, of Zelienople, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, while under the care of Passavant Retirement Community. Born September 6, 1929, in Harmony, she was the daughter of the late William Stanley and Mary Ann Buehler Wilson. Mary Jean was heavily involved in her community. She was formerly a faithful member of Bell Memorial Methodist Church in Ellwood City. Mary Jean was a member of several organizations, including the Ellwood City Hospital Auxiliary. She was a certified lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America and a professional volunteer for the Beaver-Castle Girl Scouts Council, where…

Service Dog Rescued From 80+ Foot Down River Embankment

A team of amazing rescue workers helped rescue a service dog that went missing in the community. After four days of search, rescue workers spotted the 11-year-old Goldendoodle, Winston, deep in the woods According to a social media post and information shared with EllwoodCity.org, Winston was reportedly about 80+ ft down a river embankment in North Sewickley Township near the Koppel Bridge and over halfway down to the railroad tracks. THEFT: Andrew Freed is charged with theft of a motor vehicle after an incident occurring on June 23rd between the times of 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. Freezle Auto Wrecking reported that a pickup truck, estimated value of $1,500.00, was stolen from the property. East Palestine police recovered the vehicle and arrested Freed in connection with the stolen vehicle according to a criminal complaint. The Ellwood City Little League celebrated its 75th Anniversary on Tuesday night. In 1950, Ellwood City became the fifth league to be chartered in Western Pennsylvania and the first in Lawrence, Beaver, Butler and Mercer Counties. Borough of Ellwood City Continuing To Seek Supplies To Support IRT Mission

Ellwood City has been selected for an Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) mission through the U.S. Department of Defense. The mission’s name is Operation Healthy Ellwood and from July 23rd to August 1st the borough will have approximately 200 reservists from all branches of the military present in our town. 75th Anniversary Game Now Scheduled For Tuesday, July 8th

Initially rescheduled due to a scheduling conflicts with the Lawrence County Baseball League Tournament of Champions Playoffs, the 75th Anniversary Game has now been rescheduled a second time due to pending inclement weather. The Folino Stage in Ewing Park glittered with patriotic sparkle & spunk on Friday as 10 local ladies competed for the 8th Annual Little Miss Firecracker Crown. Alexandria Smith was crowned the 2025 winner. Ella Fauzey was 1st runner-up and Cali Kline earned the Patriotic Spirit Award. June was quite the rainy month, but nonetheless a start of warmer temperatures and the summer season for many area residents. According to Rocket.com, homes in Lawrence County sold in June 2025 at an median price of $152,256.00, just 1.5% above what they sold for a year ago.
