Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m. – Library Anniversary Committee. Local Resident to Be Featured Tonight “Get Marty” Television Series

Local resident Joseph Gasper will be featured tonight on KDKA during the popular Marty Griffin series, “Get Marty”, a segment that appears on the six o’clock news. 97 year-old Gasper, one of the area’s last surviving veterans, was injured on Dec. 7, 1941 at the attack on Pearl Harbor. His family had tried several times 18 months ago to get a chair lift installed, so he could safely go downstairs from his bedroom to the rest of the house. Nick Ioanilli Signs to Play Football at Colgate

Ellwood City senior Nick Ioanilli signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, Feb. 3 to play football at Colgate University, a Division I school in the NCAA’s Patriot League. Ioanilli was the Wolverine’s top rusher in the past two seasons. He is projected to play linebacker for the Colgate Raiders.    


Karrington Ketterer wins Lawrence County Basketball Scholarship

Ellwood City senior Karrington Ketterer was the recipient of the Lawrence County Girls Youth Basketball Scholarship. Yesterday, Ketterer set her career high of 26 points in Ellwood’s Senior Night game against New Castle. She is 13 points away from a varsity career of 1,000.

The Ellwood City wrestling team held its Senior Night on Feb. 3 and recognized two seniors, Christian Kerr and Carter MacMurdo. Although the wrestling team fell in the match to Armstrong 52-15, three Ellwood City athletes defeated opponents: Tyler Alberts, Donavan Chambers and Christian Kerr. Five of Armstrong’s wins were from forfeit. Police: Endangering Welfare of Children

Endangering Welfare of Children An Ellwood City man was charged with endangering the welfare of a child following an incident on Jan. 25. According to to the criminal complaint, Bronson Lane, 26, of Wampum Ave., was walking with his one-year old daughter on Madison Ave while the child was barefoot and insufficiently dressed. The temperature was around 35 degrees. Prior to this, Lane had assaulted his girlfriend while she was holding his daughter. After forcing the victim to hand over the child, he proceeded outside. Iowa Caucus Results: Clinton Wins Democratic, Cruz Wins Republican, Both by One Delegate

Iowa- The results for the first primary of the 2016 presidential election season are in. In the Democratic race, Hillary Clinton won, if by the smallest margin, grabbing 22 delegates while Bernie Sanders claimed 21. Sanders only tailed Clinton by 0.2 of a percent. Thus, only two candidates remain viable contenders for the Democratic ticket. The third Democratic candidate, Martin O’Malley, dropped out of the race this morning. Iowa has 27 delegates for the Republican Party, which were more evenly distributed. Ted Cruz won, claiming eight. Donald Trump and Marco Rubio each had seven. Three of the other nine candidates…


Ellwood Girls Basketball Thrashes Lincoln Park

Karrington Ketterer scored the game high of 14 points in yesterday’s away win against Lincoln Park. The Ellwood City girls basketball team maintained a steady lead through the first three quarters. Although Lincoln Park’s offense struck back in the final quarter, scoring 12-6, they didn’t overcome Ellwood’s lead, ending the game 42-32. In addition to Ketterer, Allie McKelvey and Emily Brown each scored seven points. Other scorers for Ellwood were Breonna Streit, six; Natalie Greco, four; Cortni Prine, three; and Isabella Roth, one.
