Timothy A. Houk, a senior from Ellwood City, received a $500.00 scholarship courtesy of the Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 committee. Lawrence County Commissioners to Vote on Allocation Among 9 Local Municipalities

With nearly $600,000 in funding requests but with only slightly above $100,000 in available funds for 2017, the Lawrence County Commissioners will be voting on where $84,500 will be allocated among nine municipalities in Lawrence County. Due to the counties responsibility to maintain only 27 bridges and no roads, the county commonly has an excess of revenue funded by Pennsylvania’s gasoline tax. They often use the excess for distribution among the local municipalities for liquid fuel-eligible projects. Windy Ridge Dairy Farm is hosting their 6th annual Milk Fest on June 3. Mohawk Senior Dies From Injuries After Bicycle Accident

A senior set to graduate from Mohawk High School next week died yesterday from sustained injuries following an accident, reports state. Jordan Bobin was life flown to UPMC Presbyterian after colliding with an SUV Monday afternoon while traveling on Route 18 in Big Beaver on his bicycle. Investigators believe Bobin was trying to cross the road when he was hit. No more information has been released yet. The crash is still under investigation. Updates to follow.  


New Castle Playhouse Auditions for The Cemetery Club

Ellwood City Man Pleads Guilty in Stepfathers Death

Following an incident that occurred the night of Dec. 7, 2014, suspect Zachary Christopher Jones, 24, of Ellwood City, pleaded guilty Friday to charges of voluntary manslaughter and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Jones and his mother Lisa Marie Jones-Orock assaulted Gerald Lee Orock Jr., 57, of Fombell near the loading dock of Loccisano’s supermarket, leading to the mans death. Both mother and son are charged with homicide after being accused of beating Orock with a chunk of wood measuring 32 inches long, 3 1/2 inches wide and 3/4-inch thick from a piece of furniture. WPIAL Track Championship Qualifiers

Several local athletes qualified for states during the Track WPIAL Championships yesterday held at Baldwin High School. Riverside Qualifiers: Lance Fisher is the best in the WPIAL Class 2A in both discus and shot put. Calvin Wetzel took first in Boys 300 Meter Hurdles AA. Memorial Day Parade Photos

POLICE: Two Businesses – Nearly 30 Propane Tanks Stolen

According to the police reports, two businesses have had several propane tanks stolen over several recent nights. Between the nights of May 6, 9, and 16, Industrial Equipment Fabrications had 5 total tanks stolen. Each tank full and weighing 33lbs. Total approximate loss of $1,150.00. Adams Manufacturing reported an overnight burglary the night of the 12, with 23 propane tanks stolen for a total approximate loss of $3,450.00. Video surveillance is being reviewed with further investigation.


Sweet Caroline’s to Officially Open Tomorrow

Sweet Caroline’s is finally bringing ice cream back to Lawrence Avenue! The shops official opening is tomorrow, May 19. They will be opening their doors to the public starting at 2p.m. and staying open until 9p.m. according to their event page on Facebook. An array of ice cream specialties made with ice cream crafted by the local dairy store, Windy Ridge Dairy, will be available for consumption.
