Mrs. Dorothy M. Barrett, 90, of Ellwood City passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at her daughters residence in Beaver Falls. Mrs. Barrett was born on August 8, 1927 in New Brighton to the late Joseph Hagans and Verda Penney. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1945. Dorothy had worked at Airway Industries in West Pittsburgh for several years, and later as a homemaker. She enjoyed coloring, watching reality TV and soap operas. Mrs. Barrett is survived by her daughters Michelle (James) Dashield of Beaver Falls and Traci Moore of Los Angeles, CA, her sons Craig Goatley of Sacramento,…
The Riverside High School Varsity Softball will be hosting a pancake breakfast at Lillyville Church, from 8:30a.m. – 11:30a.m. this Saturday, November 18. There will be a wide variety of pancakes to choose from including buttermilk, buckwheat, blueberry and chocolate chip. There will even be a topping bar! Three baskets will be raffled off including two Panther baskets and one Steelers basket. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for 55+, $5 for veterans, $5 for children 3-10, and free for children under 3.
Watch the sparks fly as crews work to renovate the Fifth Street Bridge. Crews from Thornbury Inc of West Sunbury, Pa. are working to repair the deteriorating condition of the old railroad overpass, including removing and repairing concrete, removing calcium deposits, replace downspouts and reroute the storm sewers on Fifth, and redirect any ground water from plugged holes. After that, the crews will be replacing the entire sidewalk on the north side of the bridge, facing Lawrence, and erecting a 60-foot long, 6-foot tall chain link fence on top of the abutment. Work is expected to be completed Nov. 22.
Several Pounds of Marijuana Seized According to the criminal complaint, after being stopped for a turn signal violation, Dwight Andre Campbell, 45, of Altoona, Pa., appeared to be extremely nervous – he was sweating excessively and his hands were visibly shaking. The officer detected a strong odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle. After searching the vehicle the officer located approximately five pounds of vacuum sealed marijuana in a box for home security cameras. Riverside made quick work of Avonworth Friday night with a 42-14 victory that move the #4-seeded Panthers into the Class-AA semifinals for a second consecutive year. According to the 10-day weather forecast on Weather.com snow showers are expected in the upcoming weeks. Important things to keep in mind: it might be warm enough to rain during the day but the rain may freeze over night causing black ice, bridges ice before roads, and the new anti- dog tethering law is in effect this winter for the first time.
