Temperatures to Rise, Fall

This week has been much warmer than last, and by Saturday we should be seeing temperatures into the 50’s. Unfortunately the mild temperatures will not last; according to the Weather Channel, Friday will see a high of 51 degrees, Saturday back down to a high of 21, and Sunday with a high of 18. Throughout the next couple weeks we can expect to see fluctuation in temperatures from the single digits upwards to the forties. View the 10 day forecast for Ellwood City below:


River of the Year: Connoquenessing Named Runner-Up

The public has been on the edge of their seats waiting for the results of the River of the Year contest, which were finally announced this week. The Connoquenessing was in a tight race with Loyalsock Creek, all throughout the voting, but ultimately came up short in the end. “Unfortunately The Connoquenessing came in short for 1st place by 720 votes- Loyalsock Creek won with 6100 votes, the Connie with 5,381,” Tracey Hughes stated. “We thank everyone for their support and knowing we are the hidden gem of Western Pa.” The other participating waterways were Lackawanna River, which took third…


Ellwood City Wolverines Notch Win Against Mohawk Area

Lincoln won 66-54 against Mohawk Area on Tuesday with the help of Broc Boariu, who scored 22 points. Ellwood City Wolverines pulled away early with a 22-point first quarter after an impressive 22-2 run, eventually claiming a 36-20 lead by halftime. With a field goal percentage of 47% (7-for-15), Boariu had a great game from the field, also sinking 50% (6-for-12) of threes attempted. Lady Panthers Top Wolverines In Rivalry Game 2.0

For some, the buzz of Friday Night’s boys basketball game may have worn off by the end of the weekend, but if anyone needed another reason to get excited for high school basketball action, the buzz resurfaced Monday Night during the Panthers and Wolverines girls basketball game in Ellwood City. The Lady Panthers ousted the Lady Wolverines 45-31 in a game that saw a defensive struggle for much of the first half. Austin Walley Places First, EC Wrestling Team Finishes 7th In MAC Tournament

Austin Walley placed 1st in the 170-pound class at MAC Wrestling Tournament held this weekend to lead an Ellwood City wrestling team that finished 7th out of 16 teams. Other wrestlers placing include, Donavin Chambers placed 3rd, Jake Alberts placed 3rd, Tyler Baird placed 4th, Doug Balin placed 6th, Braden Strohecker placed 7th, and Angelo Agostinelli placed 8th. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Notches Victory Over Rival Riverside

The Ellwood City Wolverines withstood a late comeback from rival Riverside Friday night, but held on and came out victorious with a 51-48 victory. In front of a capacity crowd at the Panther gymnasium, the Wolverines took a second quarter lead and never relinquished the lead through an fast-paced final quarter. Ellwood City saw its largest lead in the third quarter when an 11-0 scoring run – aided by eight Riverside turnovers – pushed their lead to 38-27. NOTICE: Portion of 6th Street Closed

A small portion of 6th Street, in between Crescent and Lawrence Avenue, has been completely closed off until further notice due to a water leak. The water company is currently at the scene trying to fix the problem – which has left some residents without water. There is no time estimate that has been given when the water will be working again for those residents nor when the road will be back open.

Dennis Patrick D’Angelo

Formerly of Ellwood City Dennis Patrick D’Angelo, age 44, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital on Sunday, December 31, 2017. Born July 20, 1973, in Warren, Pa., he was the son of Sharyn (Oscar) Bastiani and Richard (Nancy) D’Angelo. In addition to his parents, Dennis is survived by his wife, Mendy D’Angelo; two children, Nicholas D’Angelo and Chancey Odom; sisters, Karen (Casey) Tautfest and Vicki (John) Schettler; several aunts, uncles and cousins, and his lifelong friend, Bill Brady of Alabama. Weekly High School Basketball Team Recaps

This week the Ellwood City Boys Varsity team played a very close game against Rochester, defeating them by a mere two points. Rochester took the lead in the second quarter but Ellwood regained control in the third and fourth, ending the game with a close 64-62 victory. Forward Sean Busby was recognized as the “player of the game.” Tonight the Ellwood City Wolverines will face off against their long-time rival, the Panthers at Riverside High School.
