GoFundMe for Murdered Franklin Township Man’s Funeral

Franklin Township resident, Alan Patterson, was murdered Christmas Eve – the day before Christmas and his birthday – after a dispute with his wife. According to reports, Patterson was stabbed to death outside of his trailer in Franklin Township by his wife, Krystine, who then tried to flee the scene by foot but was later caught at a neighboring trailer. Patterson’s family has since arranged a GoFundMe page to not only help with funeral costs, but also to help support the family in this time of need. Weekly High School Basketball Team Recaps

This week the Ellwood City Boys Varsity team played against Freedom and Steel Valley earlier this week, collecting victories in both games and bringing their overall score to 5-2.  The Wolverines ousted the Bulldogs 78-62 on Monday and defeated Steel Valley 54-42 on Tuesday. Ellwood City boys will open up section play tonight hosting the New Brighton Lions starting at 7:30p.m. Riverside’s Boys Varsity team played against Aliquippa on Wednesday, losing to the top ranked and undefeated ‘Quips 66-35. Progress Coming to Ellwood City: Redevelopment of Lawrence Avenue Properties

The area of 509-515 Lawrence Avenue has been awarded to Lutz & Myers for redevelopment. State Representative Aaron Bernstine posted a live video feed of himself accompanied by Ron Lutz and Ellwood City Revitalization member Brad Ovial explaining the details of the sale and plans for the 10,000+ square foot development. The redevelopment has been part of the ongoing Ellwood City Revitalization projects to better the community and attract more business and consumers. Check out the video below for more information:

Moisture Issue at North Side Primary

While the Ellwood City School District works to flush excess lead from some of the taps at each of the schools, they are also working to fix a moisture problem at North Side Primary. The official press release from the district states this fall the district became aware of a moisture issue at North Side. In response, the District hired a company to test moisture and air quality on three separate occasions in three rooms in the basement of the building. The first and second floors were not affected. Lead Analytical Results Show Exceedance at Ellwood City Schools

According to the official results of the first round of the Ellwood City Area School District Lead Sampling and Analytical Results in Water, each of the schools has at least one fountain containing an excess of lead in the water. At Perry Elementary, eight out of the 21 total tested water sources showed an exceedance of USEPA Action Level (0.015 mg/L). Northside Elementary had two water sources that tested over the standard amount, and Hartman had one. School Choirs to Perform Carols at Community Plaza

On Wednesday, December 20th, 2017 there will be two local choirs performing Christmas carols at the Community Plaza. At 10:30a.m. the Ellwood City Area School District Concert Choir will be performing, conducted by Felicia Greco, Senior High Choral Director, and at 11:30a.m. the Laurel Area School District Choir will be performing, conducted by Kristen Clingerman. Like all Community Plaza concerts, the event is free to attend.  


Free Clothing Closet Tonight

The Lillyville Church of God, 408 Hickernell Road, Ellwood City, PA 16117, is hosting a free Clothing Closet tonight from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. Anyone in need in the surrounding areas are encouraged to stop by and check out what is stocked – everything is free. Any questions can be directed to the church’s phone: 724-758-8258.
