CCBC and Beaver County Airport Authority Announce Plans for 21st Century Aviation Facility

CHIPPEWA TWP. – Several years in the making, Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) and the Beaver County Airport (BVI) Authority task force announced plans to renovate and create a joint 21st Century aviation facility at the Beaver County Airport. The concept went before the Chippewa Township Planning Commission at their May 14 meeting. Bottom Of Lineup Carries Riverside Past South Park In WPIAL Quarterfinals

The bottom of the lineup helped Riverside cruise to a 11-1 mercy rule victory over South Park in the WPIAL Class 3A Quarterfinals on Monday at Neshannock High School. Sam Barber, Sean Hayes, and Christian Lucarelli combined for six of the Panthers’ 10 hits in the victory. The trio combined for three RBIs and two runs scored. Joyce M. Bender (Simoff), 82, of East Palestine, OH passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Elyria, Ohio on Monday, May 17, 2024. She was born in Ellwood City, Pa. on February 21, 1942, the daughter of the late Boris and Mary Simoff. Following her graduation from Lincoln High School in 1959, she attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA. where she received her BA in Spanish, graduating in 1964. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

POSSESSION: Logan Eversole, 20, of Ellwood City is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and other charges on April 25th. According to a criminal complaint, an incident occurred and police were dispatched around the area of Park Avenue and 7th Street. Police observed Eversole sitting in a vehicle and as they approached they smelled an overwhelming marijuana smell. Eversole’s eyes were bloodshot and seemed to be on some kind of pill. Historical Society Recognizes Excellence In Local Education

When the Ellwood City Area Historical Society Board adopted the topic for this year’s Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarship Essay, “Write About a Prominent Person in Ellwood City,” they expected to get papers on familiar names like Hartman, Steifel, or Schill. Franitti, Sullivan Earn Top Finishes At WPIAL Track & Field Championships

Top place finishes by two local athletes spotlighted the individual achievements at the 2024 WPIAL Boys’ & Girls’ Track & Field Championships on Wednesday at the William C. Lennox Track on the campus of Slippery Rock University. Ellwood City sprinter Nick Franitti took home a 1st place WPIAL Championship in the WPIAL Class 2A Boys 300m Hurdles. Franitti posted a mark of 39.39 to take home gold. Three Victories In WPIAL Opening Round Action

All three local teams competing Tuesday in the opening round of their respective WPIAL playoffs earned victories. RIVERSIDE 4 KEYSTONE OAKS 1 Hunter Garvin and Zack Hare combined for a no-hitter as top seeded Riverside earned a 4-1 victory over Keystone Oaks on Tuesday.
