SPORTS: Wolverines Baseball Lose On Walk-off; Junior High Softball Cruises

In a thrilling series of events, the Ellwood City Wolverines were finally defeated on a walk-off hit on Wednesday while the Wolverines Junior High Softball team cruised to victory. Wolverines Goes Down On Final Play Against Hopewell After rallying to two runs in the top half of the seventh inning on Wednesday, the Wolverines were felled by a walk-off single in the bottom of the frame and were defeated 4-3 by Hopewell. Franklin Township Announces Drive-Thru Recycling Collection

Be responsible today for a better future tomorrow by responsibly recycling your household hazardous and electronic waste. Franklin Township has announced an upcoming drive-thru recycling collection event scheduled to take place Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event is available for the ENTIRE PUBLIC, not just Franklin Township residents. The collection will take place at the Franklin Township Municipal Building, 897 Route 288, Fombell, PA 16123.  Registration is required. Wolves Club Meets, Recognizes Efforts In Sign Replacement

The Ellwood City Wolves Club met on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 and recognized the efforts of the Ellwood City Borough, Ellwood City Lions, Ellwood City Rotary and the Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II in replacing the old “Welcome to Ellwood City” sign located at the intersection of RT 288 and Route 65. The clubs raised funds to replace the sign. They had been working on the project for three years and raised $18,200 to make it possible. Beaver County Announces 2022 Hazardous Waste Collection Date

Safely dispose of common household chemicals and take advantage of the Beaver County Hazardous Waste Collection event that is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2022. The collection takes place at Bradys Run Park Recycling Center in Brighton Township and is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  A $20.00 fee covers disposal up to 10 gallons/50 pounds of the following materials: Aerosol cans,  automotive fluids, motor oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, brake fluid, batteries, camp fuel/small propane bottles, chemistry sets,  compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs), electronic cigarettes, gasoline and kerosene, household cleaners, ammonia, drain openers, acid cleaners, oven cleaners, mercury thermometers, paint…

PHOTOS: Harper Tosses 3-Hitter, Panthers Shutout Wolverines

Panthers starter Ronnie Harper pitched a gem Thursday, twirling five shutout innings as Riverside easily blanked the visiting Wolverines 10-0. Harper allowed just three hits. He struck out six batters and did not issue a walk. The Panthers, now 7-1 overall, secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the second inning. Hunter Garvin, Drake Fox, Madden Boehm, and Bo Fornataro, who all drove in runs in the second frame. Boehm slugged a second inning homerun en route to his four-RBI performance. Brush Creek Clean Up Scheduled

Take pride in your community and help clean up Brush Creek Park. Franklin Township has announced its Brush Creek Clean-Up date that will take place on Saturday, April 23rd from noon to dusk at the park. Virginia “Ginny” Daufen, 81

Virginia “Ginny” Daufen, 81, of Ellwood City, PA died on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 after a two-year illness. She was born on August 28, 1940 in Ellwood City, the daughter of the late John Fabian and Juanita (Meyers) Daufen. She was married to the late Jacob “Mike” Daufen in 1964. She was a supervisor at Leeds and Northup/Heraeus for over 29 years. Ginny enjoyed going to bingo, playing cards, watching cowboy movies, treasured Elvis Presley, and most of all, being with her family. Her grandchildren called her “Goofy Grandma” because she always acted goofy with them. Ginny is survived by…

Cole S. Jackson, 31, of Ellwood City, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Cole was a devoted husband, father, uncle and football coach. He loved being outdoors and spending his time coaching and throwing the football round to his boys. Football and sports were Cole’s life and he inspired so many young people to love the game of football. In a collective sweep for Ellwood City teams, three Wolverine teams collected victories on Wednesday. Varsity Softball improved its undefeated record, varsity baseball defeated Freedom Area, and junior high softball got the best of rival Riverside. Wolverines Softball Defeats Beaver Falls, Record Now 5-0 The offense remained potent, this time scoring seven runs in the first inning as the Lady Wolverines run ruled Beaver Falls by a score of 12-2.
