Laurel Shuts Out Ellwood City In 71st Little League Tournament

Laurel defeated Ellwood City, 10-0, in the nightcap Thursday in the 71st Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field. Braydon Faulkner rapped three singles with five RBI and was the winning pitcher with three hitless innings. Laurel opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Jack Brest led off with a double and Memphis McDonaugh followed with a single. Faulkner singled scoring Brest to give Laurel a 1-0 lead. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: Kathleen Minerd, 31, of New Castle is charged with Retail Theft after an incident on July 27 at a Sheetz location on US Route 422, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. According to the report, and at approximately 11:37 p.m., police responded and after its investigation found Minerd stole several food/drink items from within the store, totaling $21.52 in lost product. Items included Dr. Pepper, Prairie City Cake Bar, two Nerds Cluster Candy, Reese’s Sticks, Peanut Butter & Honey Sandwich, Caramel Cremes, and Pepperoni Puffs. Florida Man Charged With Conspiracy Involving Fraudulent Medicare Claims At Former Ellwood City Medical Center

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was charged in federal court with one count of conspiracy related to the submission of fraudulent Medicare claims at the former Ellwood City Medical Center, United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung announced on Wednesday. Daniel Hurt, 58, was charged by criminal Information with a conspiracy to commit health care fraud, pay and receive unlawful kickbacks, and engage in money laundering. Beginning in late 2018 and continuing through approximately October 2019, the Information alleges that Hurt participated in a conspiracy related to Medicare billing for cancer genomic (CGx) testing. Nancy L. Vivo, 72, passed away peacefully at home July 23, 2022 with her family by her side. Nancy was born on May 15, 1950 in Ellwood City, Pa, the daughter to Larry and Theresa (Macri) Nash. She worked at Vivo Iron and Metal where she met her husband, Jim. She also worked at Mahoning Bank and later in Home Healthcare, after raising her children. ELLWOOD has announced plans for significant investment in its New Wilmington, Pa, ELLWOOD Specialty Steel (ESS) facility.
