Ellwood City School District Offices and LHS Offices Closed August 5-9

In a temporary closure to help address plumbing upgrades, the Ellwood City Area School District Offices and Lincoln High School Offices will be closed for a week beginning Monday, August 5th. “We are closing because water has to be turned off the entire week for plumbing upgrades,” said Wes Shipley, Superintendent, in an email. Due to the construction, the August School Board Meetings will be held at Perry Lower Intermediate School on Monday, August 5th at 7:00 p.m. and  Thursday, August 8th at 7:00 p.m. According to Shipley, this minor closure and plumbing upgrade is the only remaining work scheduled…

Ellwood City Falls Short In 73rd Little League Tournament; Zito Earns Homerun Derby Crown

After collecting an opening round win on Tuesday in the 73rd Annual Little League Tournament, Ellwood City squad could not advance any further, falling twice on Saturday, first to Laurel and again to Neshannock, each by a 5-2 count that eliminated the tournament host. Neshannock earned the tournament championship with two victories over Laurel on Sunday. Ellwood City’s Joey Zito won the the 23rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament Home Run Derby at Freidhoff Field. Zito launched eight home runs to defeat 29 other contestants from the tournament. Franklin Township To Host 11th Annual National Night Out Event

Come on out and mingle with fellow community members! Franklin Township will be holding their 10th Annual National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 6th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. There will be free activities for children, fire safety, CPR training, prize giveaways, and food vendors. The annual event will host approximately 40 vendors for the event. INMETCO Property Purchased With Plans On Operating

According to a local news report, Irongate Industrial Center LLC was the highest bidder in purchasing the land and building of the former International Metals Reclamation Company (INMETCO) with plans to operate the facility. The report adds that during a June 26 auction, Irongate Industrial Center LLC was the highest bidder at $1.4 million for the industrial site and under the terms of the sale, Irongate agreed to purchase the property free-and-clear of all liens, interests and encumbrances, and will not be responsible for any liability or obligations from INMETCO during the bankruptcy case. Fatal Crash Occurs On Route 65 Near Hogue Road Overnight Saturday

A one vehicle fatal crash occurred just after midnight into Saturday that took the lives of the driver and two passengers. According to a PA Police report, and at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 2019 Nissan Armada was traveling south bound on State Round 65, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County and for unknown reasons traveled across the northbound travel lane, before leaving the roadway. The SUV then struck two utility poles and continued through a yard before striking a parked car located in a driveway. SIMPLE ASSAULT: Ryan Kelosky, 31, of Fombell, is charged with Simple Assault and Harassment after an incident on July 14th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 3:06 a.m., police were dispatched to a residence on Park Avenue for a domestic disturbance involving a female victim and Kelosky. Gabe Lilly Among Three Area Athletes Competing At Fargo Nationals This Month

Ellwood City wrestler Gabe Lilly is among three area athletes competing out of Ellwood City High School’s Wrecking Crew Wrestling Club competing in the US Marine Corps Junior & 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D. this month. The Fargo Nationals is the most elite national tournament for high school athletes and the tournament runs from July 13-20th, featuring both boys and girls brackets in a variety of weight classes and styles.
