Local radio station WXED 107.3 FM is holding its 3rd annual local business Christmas jingle contest. For participants interested, you and/or your employee(s) need to sing a 30 to 40-second-long Christmas jingle – a traditional song or make up your own – and WXED will come to record. Riverside Lions Club Stays Busy With Hygiene Helpers, Food Drives

The Riverside Lions would like to thank the residents of the Ellwood City area and particularly Ellport for supporting our collections recently of both food supplies for the Holy Redeemer Food Bank and the Hygiene Helpers boxes located at the Franklin Township Giant Eagle and area Dollar General stores. The club has tried to stay busy in these unusual times according to King Lion, Chip Campbell. Shannon Wimer Hunston, 43, entered God’s Kingdom on Thursday, November 11, 2021, after a courageous two-year battle with colorectal cancer. Shannon was 43 and was surrounded by her loving family when she passed. Shannon was born to Phil and Lori Wimer on October 13, 1978, in Ellwood City, PA. When Shannon was younger, her favorite activities were singing and musical theater. She went to Ellwood City Schools and Beaver County Christian School. ECPD Introduces New Vehicle For K-9 Program

The Ellwood City Police Department brought home its new police K9 vehicle this week. The 2021 Dodge Charger was purchased utilizing funds raised through Reed Services as well as assistance other generous donors and fundraisers. Reed Services, Sgt. Michael McBride as well as K9 Officer Richard Kruger will be going to Shallow Creek Kennel on February 7, 2022 to meet with the representatives and to choose the new K9 for the Ellwood City Police Department. Justin Hand Ties Tiffin University Single Round Record, Helping Dragons Finish 4th at Doc Spragg

Riverside graduate Justin Hand tied the Tiffin University record with a 6-under par 66 at the Doc Spragg Invitational hosted by the University of Findlay in September. Hand led the Dragons to a 4th place finish at the invitational held on Tuesday, September 21st. THEFT: According to a criminal complaint, Jason Mulig, 46, of Ellwood City, is charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking after an incident on November 1, 2021. According to the report, at approximately 5:38 p.m. police were dispatched to Dollar General on Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City for the reported theft. The victim advised police she had two twenty dollar bills stolen from her purse. The Butler County Community College volleyball team finished the 2021 season with the program’s 12th consecutive winning record and first national ranking since 2016, titles in its conference, region and district, and a sixth-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III championships in Rochester, Minn., on Saturday.
